WHAT IS IT TO BE BECOME A GLOBAL CITIZEN? VISIT AND SEARCH SITES FROM THE
INTERNET AND CHOOSE A PARTICULAR SOURCE WHICH YOU THINK BEST GIVES THE
ANSWER TO BECOMING A GLOBAL CITIZEN. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS
BELOW:
-According to OXFAM (1997), A global citizen is an individual who is aware of the world
and has a sense of their role in it. They respect and value diversity and work to
understand and add to efforts to achieve social development goals. Global citizens
participate in communities at all levels (from local to global) and take responsibility for
their actions and interactions with members of their own community and communities
abroad. To become a global citizen, you’ll have to be creative, flexible, dedicated and
proactive. Global citizens get involved as members of the international community and
are committed to building on this community in a meaningful and positive way. This
means that aspiring global citizens need to develop skills related to problem-solving,
decision-making, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. These five skills are
becoming more and more essential to success in the workplace, as well as life in
general, and can add to both your personal and professional development in a big way.
-You need to be inspired and goal oriented. A global citizen sees value in its citizenship
in the world and is driven by the objective of collaborating for the betterment of the global
community. Global citizens try to understand other people and have empathy for them.
Global citizens act fairly in their choices, their decisions, and their words. This is because
they know that the things we do contribute to what kind of future we will all live in or
suffer. Young people should learn to develop the knowledge, skills and values they need
to engage with the world. Build their own understanding of world events. Think about
their values and what's important to them. Take learning into the real world. Challenge
ignorance and intolerance. Get involved in their local, national and global communities.
Develop an argument and voice their opinions. See that they have power to act and
influence the world around them.
