2. DESCRIPTION

2.1 GENERAL

The motor drives of the CMM series are intended for the operation of switchgears
(disconnectors and earthing switches) manufactured by AREVA and are designed in
compliance with the standards CEI-EN 60129, CEI-EN 60529 and CEI-EN 60694.
The models included in this series are (see production plan):
• CMM: single-shaft motor drive (standard production), suitable for operating a
line disconnector or an earthing switch;
• CMLM: (with motor on the right and lever on the left), two-shaft motor drive, the
second shaft is operated manually, suitable for operating a line disconnector
and an earthing switch;
• CMML: (with motor on the left and lever on the right), two-shaft motor drive, the
second shaft is operated manually, suitable for operating a line disconnector
and an earthing switch.
• CMH: single shaft drive, manual operation only.
The drives of the series CMH are normally operated by means
Important of the special crank (13 Fig. 2, 5); such crank (13 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9)
is used for all the others drives for emergency operation only.
The box (1 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) that contains the drive is made of press-formed
sheets of stainless steel; it is weather resistant and has a degree of protection IP55.
The inner parts are accessed through a front door (3 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) hinged on
the box. The door is equipped with a handle (4 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) that can be locked
by inserting a padlock through two holes of Ø13 mm made on a specific plate (5 Fig.
1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9).
Except for the model CMH, inside the box, on the left side (or on the right for the non-
standard CMML), there is a front panel (40 Fig. 11, 12, 14, 15) that - as directed by
the customer - may include a service selector switch (49 Fig. 15), a (green) opening
push-button (50 Fig. 15), a (black) halt push-button (52 Fig. 15) and a (red) closing
push-button (51 Fig. 15).
The internal electric panel (47 Fig. 15) is fastened parallel to the left side of the box
(parallel to the right side of the box for the non-standard CMML) and includes, for all
motor drives, on the visible side, the motor protection switch (48 Fig. 15), the closing
contactor (53 Fig. 15) the opening contactor (54 Fig. 15) and the anticondensation
resistor (58 Fig. 15). On customer's request, we may install the following devices
(and any other optional component in the following section 8.2): motor voltage
detection relays (55 Fig. 15), heating resistor (59 Fig. 15), microswitch (60 Fig. 15)
that prevents operation if the front door is open (3 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9), with service
selector in “REM” (remote) position, and microswitch for turning on the internal lamp.
The models of the series CMH, are equipped only with the anticondensation resistor
(58 Fig. 15) and with the optional heating resistor (59. Fig. 15).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
D0481-03-EN 6/47

On the left side of the box (or on the right for the non-standard CMML), there is also
a removable sheet-metal cover (2 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) that allows access to the
terminal blocks (56 Fig. 15) located on the other side of the internal electric panel (47
Fig. 15).
The internal electrical components have a protection degree at least of IP20. The
cables enter the device through a removable aluminum plate (23 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9)
located on the bottom of the box.
The mechanical part is an irreversible reducer (19 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9), therefore the
output shaft (21 Fig. 11, 12, 13; 21A Fig. 14) can be operated only by means of a
torque applied on the input shaft of the reducer, while an external torque applied on
the output shaft does not cause any rotation. Thus the switchgear cannot be moved
by external forces, such as the pressure of the wind or the weight of ice or snow
applied to the arms or to the rods of the switchgear.
The output shaft (21 Fig. 11, 12, 13; 21A Fig. 14) of the drive is equipped with a
specific clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) for coupling with the vertical drive shaft of the
switchgear and can rotate for 90°/135°/180° accordi ng to the type of switchgear. The
nominal torques supplied by the motor output shaft (21 Fig. 11, 12; 21A Fig. 14) are
indicated in the production plan (see table on Section 2.2)
Motor operations can be controlled from a remote control room or locally on the
device itself by means of optional push-buttons on the front electric panel (40 Fig. 11,
12, 14, 15). In case of two-shaft drives, the second shaft is operated - manually only -
by means of a removable lever (25 Fig. 7, 9) that is inserted into a specific clamp (26
Fig. 7, 9) installed directly on the shaft (12B Fig. 7, 9) of the earthing switch.
For the model CMH, the operation is carried out by means of the removable crank
(13 Fig. 2, 5); if the electro-mechanical interlocking device (18 Fig. 13) is installed,
normally the shutter and therefore the tab (28 Fig. 13) are locked by a coil and the
crank inlet hole is closed. If there is an external electric consent (see wiring diagram)
the coil is energized and the shutter unlocked. You can then pull the tab (28 Fig. 13)
to release the inlet hole (15 Fig. 2, 5) and insert the crank (13 Fig. 2, 5) into the
socket.
For motor drives, the manual emergency operation of the switchgear is carried out by
means of a removable crank (13 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9), which is kept in a specific housing on
the bottom of the box (14 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9). Normally, the inlet (15 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9)
through which the crank is inserted is opened by pulling a tab (28 Fig. 11, 12, 14)
which activates an electrical interlocking between the emergency manual operation
and the motor operation; therefore - as long as the crank (13 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) is
inserted - any motor operation is prevented since the auxiliary circuit that supplies
power to the motor is interrupted. If there is a service selector switch (49 Fig. 15) with
three positions “REM-LOC-MAN”, set it to “MAN” before pulling the tab (28 Fig. 11,
12, 14).
If the electro-mechanical interlocking device (18 Fig. 11, 12, 14) is installed, normally
the shutter and therefore the tab (28 Fig. 11, 12, 14) are locked by a coil and the
crank inlet hole is closed; in this case only motor operations are allowed. If there is
an electric consent and the installed service selector switch (49 Fig. 15) is set to the
position “MAN” (manual), or if there is just an electric consent (see electric diagram)
when no service selector switch is installed, the coil is energized and unlocks the
shutter. You can then pull the tab (28 Fig. 11, 12, 14) to release the inlet hole (15 Fig.

1, 4, 7, 9) and insert the crank (13 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) into the socket. Moreover, when the
crank is inserted, a relay opens the auxiliary circuit that supplies power to the motor
and therefore no motor operation is possible as long as the crank is inserted.
All drives include end stops (21 Fig. 11, 12, 13; 21A, 21B Fig. 14) and a signaling
unit (31 Fig. 11, 13, 14) located under the reducer, inside the box. The signaling unit
is made of a support (32 Fig. 11, 13, 14) in sheet meal that holds a vertical shaft (38
Fig. 11, 13, 14) integral with the output shaft of the drive. On the vertical shaft (38
Fig. 11, 13, 14) of the signaling unit, a set of adjustable and independent cams (37
Fig. 11, 13, 14) is installed; each cam operates a fixed microswitch (36 Fig. 11, 13,
14).
Except for the models of the series CMH, two microswitches (33 and 34 Fig. 11, 12,
13, 14), called respectively “FO” (opening limit switch, green cam) and “FC” (closing
limit switch, red cam) are the electric limit switches of the motor that stop it in the end
positions (OPEN and CLOSED) of the switchgear somewhat in advance of the
respective end stops. The limit cams (35 Fig. 11, 12, 13, 14) are adjusted in our
workshop and normally do not require any subsequent adjustment.
The positions of the main contacts of the switchgear are detected by means of the
other micro-switches (36 Fig. 11, 13, 14), which are called also auxiliary contacts,
that are activated by the cams (37 Fig. 11, 13, 14) during the CLOSING and
OPENING operations of the switchgear.
In case of two-shaft drives, the second output shaft (21B Fig. 14) is also equipped
with an equivalent signaling unit (41 Fig. 14). In this case though, the first
microswitch (42 Fig. 14) from above, called “FT”, acts as electric interlock between
the two shafts and therefore between the line disconnector and the earthing switch.
Alternatively, the signaling unit may be of selector switch type, as shown in Fig. 12.
The selector switch (61 Fig. 12) is operated by a cam (62 Fig. 12) with pins and
integral with the output shaft (21 Fig. 12) of the reducer, which operates a cam (63
Fig. 12) coupled with the shaft (64 Fig. 12) of the selector switch itself.
All two-shaft drives are also equipped with a mechanical interlocking device, made of
two discs (44 and 45 Fig. 14) integral with the respective output shafts (21A and 21B
Fig. 14) and a mobile peg (46 Fig. 14); in addition, there is also an electromechanical
locking device (24 Fig. 14) of the shaft of the earthing switch.

2.3 IDENTIFICATION OF THE DRIVES

To identify drives of the CMM/CMLM/CMML/CMH series, a sticker is affixed on top of

the inner side of the door (see Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9). As show in Fig. 16, the sticker
contains the serial number of the device and some technical data concerning both
the drive and the switchgear.

3. PACKAGING AND SHIPMENT

The drives of the CMM series/CMLM/CMML/CMH are shipped completely assembled
and wired.
The removable crank (13 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) for the manual emergency operation is
shipped with the drive and is normally kept in a specific housing on the bottom of the
box (14 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9).
The equipment is shipped in cases, which must be handled with care in accordance
with the standard symbols on the sides of the containers.
Each drive is put in a cardboard box; the boxes are then gathered on a wooden
pallet, closed into a barrier bag together with some bags of desiccant and the barrier
bag is then evacuated (high vacuum). Each pallet is then closed into a wooden crate
to protect the equipment against blows and damages during handling and
transportation.
The shipment packing ensures that all quality features of the equipment, which are
guaranteed and tested in all stages of production, remain unaltered.

4. RECEIPT AND STORAGE

4.1 RECEIPT

As soon as you receive the crates, inspect the content of each package and make
sure that the equipment is intact. In this stage, open the crates with the utmost care
in order to avoid damaging the barrier bag which would make it useless.
If you detect any damage to the equipment, inform immediately AREVA.

4.2 STORAGE

4.2.1 Short-time storage (less than 18 months)

Put the cases in a dry and sheltered place; the crates should be raised by at least 10
cm from the ground with wooden beams.
If there are barrier bags, check that that there are no air pockets indicating loss of
vacuum.

4.2.2 Long-time storage (longer than 18 months)

AREVA T&D SpA – Via Meucci, 22 30020 Noventa di Piave (VE) ITALY – Tel. : 39 0421 309511 – Fax.: 39 0421 65254

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
D0481-03-EN 9/47

The barrier bags are effective for 18 months, if they are perfectly intact and
preserved. After 18 months, open the barrier bags, extract the drives from the
cardboard boxes and inspect them internally and externally to check that the
equipment is preserved. Put back the drives into the cardboard boxes and energize
continually the ant condensation resistors.
Repeat the inspection periodically.

5. UNPACKING AND LIFTING

Unpack the materials with care in order to avoid loosing or damaging any item.
Open the shipping cases on site just before installation, in a position where the
hoisting equipment may hook the materials with ease.
To lift the drive, sling it with the ropes or belts on the flange of the output shaft as
shown in Fig. A.
FIG. A: LIFTING THE DRIVE

6. INSTALLATION

6.1 CONDITIONS AND PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS BEFORE INSTALLATION

a) To install correctly the drives, the connection dimensions of building works and
steel works must comply with the specific DIN-... installation drawings that
concern the switchgear.

AREVA T&D SpA – Via Meucci, 22 30020 Noventa di Piave (VE) ITALY – Tel. : 39 0421 309511 – Fax.: 39 0421 65254

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
D0481-03-EN 10/47

b) You should also read the specific instructions of the switchgear concerning the
coupling of the vertical drive shaft to the leverage of the fixed driving base.

6.2 INSTALLATION OF THE DRIVE

Before carrying out the installation, check that the serial number of
Important the drive matches the serial number of the switchgear.

Lift the drive as shown in figure A; take the back of the device toward the support
structure and take care that the holes (6 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) on the drive match those
on the structure.
Fasten temporarily two bolts diagonally without tightening finally.
Release the lifting apparatus.
Check that the drive is in the OPEN or CLOSED position as directed in the specific
instruction manual of the switchgear.
In order to ensure the best grip, before installing the drive shaft of
the switchgear, polish with abrasive paper the lower part of the shaft
Important for a length of about 150 mm.
Check also that the internal surface of the clamp is free from any
trace of grease or other impurities.
Remove the lower fastening bolt installed previously and, by pivoting on the other
upper bolt still installed, tilt the drive to permit the installation of the vertical drive
shaft(s) (12 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5; 12A and 12B Fig. 7, 9).
Insert the lower part of the vertical drive shaft (12 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5; 12A e 12B Fig. 7, 9)
into the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9).
Bring back the drive to the correct position and fasten the other fastening bolts to the
support structure.
If needed, loosen the bolts that fasten the drive to the structure, raise or lower the
drive and then tighten the bolts again, in order to get - when the adjustment is
complete - the exact dimensions shown in the specific installation drawing of the
switchgear.
Check also that the drive is level in two perpendicular directions, if needed shim the
connections.
Fasten temporarily the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) without tightening the screws
(11 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9).
Check that the drive shafts (12 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5; 12A and 12B Fig. 7, 9) are vertical in
two perpendicular directions.
Now you can tighten finally the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) with the screws (11 Fig.
1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) to lock the shaft with a torque of 80 Nm. In order to assist in this
operation, apply some normal grease on the bolts.

7. COMMISSIONING

7.1 MECHANICAL CHECKS

During the commissioning of the switchgear, come manual

operations of OPENING/CLOSING are required.
To allow manual operation of the drive, pull the tab (28 Fig. 11, 12,
13, 14) to open the hole (15 Fig. 11, 12, 13, 14) for insertion of the
crank.
Important
If the electromechanical lock (18 Fig. 11, 12, 13, 14) is installed,
supply auxiliary power to the lock coil (see electric diagram),
alternatively you can use the service selector switch (if any) (49
Fig. 15), by switching it to the position “MAN” (manual) before
pulling the tab (28 Fig. 11, 12, 13, 14).

When all auxiliary circuits are not supplied any power, you can
carry out emergency unlock - which will disable all electric locks.
To do this, locate the hole (29 Fig. 11, 12, 13, 14) on the bottom of
the electromechanical interlocking device (see Fig. 11, 12, 13 and
14), insert the tip of a small screwdriver into it and press the mobile
Danger armature of the relay.
!
We remind that after commissioning of the equipment, such
unlocking procedure is reserved for trained personnel and only in
emergency cases.
AREVA is not responsible for any damage or injury caused by the
improper application of the unlocking procedure described above.
Set manually the drive and the disconnector (or the earthing switch) to the CLOSED
position.
Check that the arrow with the word “CLOSED”, on the support (9 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9)
of the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9), is aligned with the arrow located on the top of the
box.
Carry out a manual OPENING operation and check that the arrow with the word
“OPEN”, on the support (9 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) of the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9), is
aligned with the arrow located on the top of the box.
Check also that the limit switches of the motor operate about 2° before the completion
of an operation, corresponding to the end OPEN and CLOSED positions, as shown in
Fig. B.If needed, you can adjust the limit cams (33 and 34 Fig. 11, 12, 14) until the
required conditions are reached (see Section 7.3).

FIG. B

If needed, carry out the following adjustment: loosen the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) of
the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9), at the base of the vertical drive shaft (12 Fig. 1, 4; 12A
Fig. 7, 9), and turn the shaft manually until it reaches the correct position; then
tighten the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) again with a torque wrench at 80 Nm.

7.2 ELECTRIC CHECKS

! Danger

Connect all the wires in accordance with the wiring diagram supplied with the
documentation of the drive.
The following procedure applies to motor drives; for the CMH
series, just check the circuits of the electro-mechanic locking
Important
device (18 Fig. 13) - if installed – and of the signaling unit (31
Fig. 13).
Before supplying power to the circuits, we recommend to check the adjustment of all
the electric devices such as the motor protection switch (48 Fig. 15) and any other
adjustable device even if they are usually adjusted in our workshop.
Set manually the drive in an intermediate position between OPEN and CLOSED and
remove the crank (13 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9). Supply power to the motor circuit and the
auxiliary circuits and check that the voltages applied are those written on the name
plate of the drive.
Start a CLOSING operation and open the motor protection circuit after about one
second.
If the output shaft (21 Fig. 11, 12; 21A Fig. 14) turns in the correct direction, complete
the CLOSING operation and check that at the end of the operation the limit switch

“FC” (34 Fig. 11, 12, 14) is activated before the end stops of the switchgear and of
the drive (27 Fig. 11, 12, 14) are reached.
If the output shaft (21 Fig. 11, 12; 21A Fig. 14) turns in the direction opposite to the
required one, swap the positive pole and the negative pole of the power supplied to
the motor, or - if the motor is a three-phase alternated current one - invert two
phases.
Repeat the operations described above for the OPENING and check that at the end
of the operation the limit switch “FO” (33 Fig. 11, 12, 14) is activated before the end
stops of the switchgear and of the drive (27 Fig. 11, 12, 14) are reached.
Proceed then with some complete electric operations and check with an ammeter
that the current consumption of the motor is close to the value written in the name
plate of the drive. In general, values greater by about 20% are acceptable, as long as
they occur in a short interval of the opening or closing operation; in the rest of the
operation, the measured current must be much lower than the value written on the
name plate of the drive, but not necessarily constant.
If needed, align again the position of the switchgear with that of the drive as follows:
loosen the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) of the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9), at the base of the
vertical drive shaft (12 Fig. 1, 4; 12A Fig. 7, 9), and turn the shaft manually until it
reaches the correct position; then tighten the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) again with a
torque wrench at 80 Nm.

7.3 ADJUSTMENT OF THE AUXILIARY CONTACTS

The limit switches “FC” ed “FO” (Fig. 33, 34 Fig. 11, 14) of the motor are adjusted in
our factory to activate about 2° before the end sto ps (27 Fig. 11, 14).
The auxiliary contacts (36 Fig. 11, 14) are adjusted in our workshop to activate about
8° before the limit switches “FC” ed “FO” (33, 34 F ig. 11, 14) of the motor to signal
the position of the switchgear in accordance with the diagram contained in the
applicable electric diagram.
In spite of this, when the drive is installed this adjustment may require some fine-
tuning. This includes the signaling unit of the earthing switch.
In order to perform the fine-tuning, loosen the knurled nut (39 Fig. 11, 14), located on
the bottom of the signaling unit, and regulate the activation of the micro-switches (36
Fig. 11, 14) by moving forward or backward the respective cams (37 Fig. 11, 14);
when you have achieved the required condition tighten the knurled nut (39 Fig. 11,
14) again.
After these operations, the position of the switchgear may require to be aligned again
with that of the drive: in order to do this, loosen the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) of the
clamp (10 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) and turn the vertical drive shaft of the switchgear manually
until it reaches the correct position; then fasten the clamp (10 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) again by
tightening the bolts (11 Fig. 1, 4, 7, 9) with a torque wrench at 80 Nm.
