PPD: Assignment 2: Learning Outcomes and related discussion points (talking points)

1 Understand how self-managed learning can enhance lifelong development


1.1 evaluate approaches to self-managed learning – Learning strategies, learning advice to group members, using
ASSIST & MBTI to understand own learning. Skills Audit (i.e. looking at the information and devising own approach
to SML by understanding different possibilities (Skills Audit – see Moodle Week 7).
1.2 propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts could be encouraged – for
personal, provide opportunities to develop learning strategies (e.g. ASSIST). For professional, as part of a PDP
process provide courses, awareness, opportunities and structure for developing lifelong learning skills
1.3 evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organisation – Individual: increased self-
awareness and opportunities for reflection; better job or promotional prospects etc. Organisation: flexible and
autonomous staff who provide a better qualified and more motivated workforce, more suited to the demands of the
Knowledge Society.
2 Be able to take responsibility for own personal and professional development
2.1 evaluate own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organisational objectives –
SWOT analysis, Skills Audit, ASSIST, MBTI etc used to evaluate own current skills and competencies against the
skills employers have indicated that they want from graduates.
2.2 identify own development needs and the activities required to meet them – discuss how you would identify your
goals and objectives and the methods needed to achieve them (provide examples)
2.3 identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs – discuss examples of how you
have identified “development opportunities” from your learning, personal and professional development plans
(current and future defined needs)
2.4 devise a personal and professional development plan based on identified needs – explain how you did this while
reviewing examples from each of the three main sections of the PDP
3 Be able to implement and continually review own personal and professional development plan
3.1 discuss the processes and activities required to implement the development plan – provide an overview of
activities 2.1-2.4 and 3.1-3.4 (i.e. those needed to implement and review your own PDPs).
3.2 undertake and document development activities as planned – provide examples of development activities in
progress (e.g. from your learning development plan)
3.3 reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan – provide
examples using development activities you (may) have completed (e.g. from your learning development plan) or
discuss how you intend to do this.
3.4 update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation provide examples using development activities in
you have completed (e.g. from your learning development plan) or discuss how you intend to do this.
4 Be able to demonstrate acquired interpersonal and transferable skills(see Lecture 9 for lists)
4.1 select solutions to work-based problems – understand what “interpersonal and transferable skills” are. Choose a
workshop and demonstrate your understanding of and improvement of at least one interpersonal and transferable.
4.2 communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels – Think of the enormous variety of
communication situations, styles and skills (reading, writing, listening speaking, appropriate body language, effective
design of slides/websites/reports, reflective writings, online meetings, f2f meetings, emails, sms, video chat etc),
Discuss and give examples of appropriate use when working, for example, as a team member or leader,
communicating with and interacting with peers, teaching staff, IBD management, clients etc.
4.3 evaluate and use effective time management strategies – show how you have understood the importance of Time
Management and can develop and implement improvements.
