Tank volume Gravimetric 0.01 ml 5%
(Annex B)

5.1 Description
The tank is conditioned for 2 hours at 24±2 °C and 45±5 % relative humidity. The tank is placed in a
position that is 10° from vertical and is filled with demineralized water. The tank is filled and emptied 3
times and the volume is determined using the density of water and the mass difference between the full
and the empty tank.

6 Child Resistance Test
The E-cigarette is tested fully assembled, fully recharged and filled with a reference e-liquid. Compliance
failures are documented (if possible) using photos and commentary and relevant test readings are given as
commentary as well.

6.1 Method
Activation protection
Method: Normal use of device
Description: A child must not be able to activate the device by accident. If the device uses a series of
button presses to prevent accidental activation this is tested using variations of button presses.
Test procedure: With the device deactivated, the button is pressed 1 through 4 times as well as a
continuous button press for a minimum of 15 seconds. Other combinations can be used depending on the
configuration of the device.

Child Resistance (E-Liquid accessibility)

Method: DS/EN 13127:2012, annex D and EN71-1: 2014
Description: A child must not be able to gain access to the E-liquid and the closure mechanism on the tank
must be able to prevent this. Depending on the construction of the tank, one of the following test criteria
must be met.
1. There is no access to the E-liquid regardless whether the tank is attached to the hardware or
not and the tank is not intended to be opened (single use cartridges/pods).
2. The tank closure requires 2 different types of actions to open (for example applied pressure
and a twisting action).
3. A tool is required to open the tank.
4. The tank has been approved and tested according to EN 8317.
Test procedure:
1+3: A force of 20N is applied to the presumed weakest point of the tank. Visual inspection of leaks.
2: The tank is closed with a torque of 0.34±0.05 Nm. Pressure is applied and the amount of force
necessary to twist the tank to an open position is measured. The force must be at least 20N.
4: No test necessary.

E-cigarette Droptest
Method: CEN/TS 17287: 2019
Description: The E-cigarette is dropped onto a concrete surface from a height of 100 cm. 3 different
orientations of the E-cigarette is used. No damage or visual leakage must be found on visual inspection.
Test procedure: The E-cigarette is assembled fully. If the E-cigarette is not prefilled with e-liquid a standard
PG/VG solution is used. Condition the E-cigarette at 15-25 °C for 2 hours before testing.
a) horizontal (0° orientation)
b) vertical (90° orientation)
c) angled (45° orientation)

Tamper evident
Method: Visual inspection
Description: A visual inspection of the container to ascertain that it contains a seal and that the seal has
not been broken.

Mechanical pull
Method: DS/EN 71-1: 2014
Description: The E-cigarette is pulled using a gradual force in the opening direction.
Test procedure: The E-cigarette is attached to the testing apparatus using suitable clamps. Attach the
movable part of the apparatus to the opening of the device.
Apply a force of (90±2) N in the opening direction of the e-liquid container. Apply the force gradually over a
period of 5 seconds and maintain the force for 10 seconds.

7.1 Decision Rules

-
G8:09/2019.

This means that results above the detection limit are always reported with two significant digits. Results are
evaluated with the same number of significant digits as the corresponding limit values, and conformity is
based on results being less than or equal to limit values.

For limit values with more than two significant digits, the third digit will be used to confirm whether a result
is below or equal to the limit value. It will always be indicated in the evaluation table if this expanded
evaluation is performed.

Compliance assessment
The statements of conformity are made on the basis of the testing standards and by applying the
measurement uncertainties according to the rules in the applied standards as follows:
compliance is deemed to occur if no measured value exceeds the respective limit.
non-compliance is deemed to occur if any measured value exceeds the respective limit.
No additional margin to the limit is considered under the condition that the measurement instruments fulfil
the requirements of the IECEE OD-5014 and the measurement uncertainty does not exceed the limits given
in the relevant standards.
