1. Why is English very important?


A. English is the international language
i. Because English is the most widely spoken language of the world.
B. It is used in communicating with others that have different languages.
i. English help us to talk to other people that have different mother tongue.
C. Creates a diversity with other people
i. English creates an interaction and connection between people since they can be
able to communicate with one another.
D. Allows people to have an access to many information around the world.
i. We can gather and share information to other country through English and
improve our knowledges.
E. The countries and continents are dependent on each other and needs the help of other
countries.
i. United Nations uses English as their primary language in their meetings and
agreements.
ii. It unites nation because they can be able to express their argument and agree in to
one conclusion.
2. How do we learn English?

A. It is taught by the parents on their children as their first language.

i. The parent’s mother tongue is English so they teach their child English language.

B. It is taught in school as second language.

i. Most countries used in English in their professional works so they teach it in school.

C. Talking and listening to other people that speaks English

i. It can be taught by our peers and friends by listening to them when they speak English and ask
the meaning.

D. Reading and writing English.

i. Buying English books and studying on your own is one way to learn English

E. Learning in internet by searching and watching videos.

i. Watching English tutorial videos.

ii. Searching translators that translate your language to English.


Activity 3:

Directions: Write a Paragraph Outline about the recent SONA of Pres. Duterte. Use the spaces
provided below.

5th SONA of President Rodrigo Duterte

I. Introduction
A. Rodrigo Duterte delivered his 5th SONA on July 27,2020.
B. The speech lasted for 1 hour and 41 minutes.
C. It only has a limited audience for about 50 Congress and Cabinet officials.
II. Body
A. Rodrigo failed to tackle the government’s response on the COVID-19 Pandemic
1. People expected that the President will mention the roadmap of the COVID-
19 response on his speech since it is the top priority of the country.
2. He only mentioned in their plan that the COVID-19 vaccine is near.
3. He thanked the frontliners that risked their lives in responding to the disease.
B. The president prioritized in bringing down ‘oligarchs’ instead of laying out the
plan for the COVID-19 pandemic.
1. The president criticized ABS-CBN and its owners by calling them ‘oligarchs’.
He said that he was being treated as a victim of the Lopezes in 2016 election.
2. . He also threatened PLDT-SMART and Globe by expropriation due to slow
connection. He called the owners of these telecommunication firms as
‘oligarchs.
C. Duterte slammed Senator Franklin Drilon for opposing the shutdown of ABS-
CBN
1. Senator Frank Drilon defended the ABS-CBN and said that the political
dynasties should be ended to remove oligarchy.
2. Duterte accused Drilon on being one of the framers of the 1997 water
concessionaire’s agreement with the government that Drilon has already
denied.
D. He praised his longtime-partner senator for his filed pet bills
1. Senator Bong Go filed Malasakit Act and delay of the barangay and
Sangguniang Kabataan elections that are considered as one of the
administration’s accomplishments.
E. Duterte highlighted the country’s positive credit ratings
1. He said that our economy is in a stronger position. The country is in a position
that can survive the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Filipinos should also travel locally to boost the economic state once the
necessary systems are in place
3. He said that reopening the economy to pre COVID-19 levels is not an option.
F. The infrastructure projects are still ongoing in the middle of pandemic.
1. Significant parts of Build Build Program were completed and a
comprehensive report will be released.
2. He also pushed the projects so the Filipinos to develop the livelihoods in the
country.
G. Duterte mentioned that he will fight the pandemic the same passion seen in the
illegal drugs campaign.
H. Duterte called out the various agencies of OFW.
1. He ordered them to help out the OFWs that lost their job and returned home
because of the pandemic.
2. He wanted to create a Department of Overseas Filipinos
I. Duterte asked the lawmakers to pass the Create Act
1. This will be a part of the country’s recovery from the pandemic that seeks to
lessen corporate income tax and rationalize financial incentive for investors.

J. The president brought up the protocols on the education.


1. He said that the face-to-face classes will not be allowed until the vaccine is
available.
2. The public schools will have equipment for online learning before he steps
down as president.
K. Duterte cannot assert the Philippines’ rights in the West Philippines Sea
1. He cannot assert the rights because this can cause war against China.
L. Duterte left a message for the criminals.
1. He warned them that the bodies will be piled up if they return to their criminal
ways.
M. Duterte asked Congress to pass the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act
1. The Act seeks in providing funds for loans that are low-interest to small
businesses, have more aid to unemployed and poor families, online learning
and COVID-19 testing.
N. The president pleaded to the president of China to prioritize our country in
supplying effective COVID-19 vaccine.
O. The government should be given the first choices so they can utilize the public
utilities.
1. He warned the telecommunication companies to improve their service until
December.
2. The government will be forced to expropriate the business if not improved.
P. Duterte told to the Congress to bring back the Death Penalty by lethal injection.
1. It is for the crimes under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

III. Conclusion
A. He asked for the nation to trust the government in the worst times.

B. Filipinos are still seeking for a real and focused plan on responding the COVID-

1. Duterte did not provide a concrete solutions and protocols in COVID-19
response, instead he only waits on the vaccines.
C. Duterte is obsessed on bring down the ‘oligarchs’ rather than solving the real
crisis that are faced by our country.

like you?

Beginning a foundation and groundwork to academic text will help in developing ideas. It
helps us students in identifying the main points in the academic text. By outlining, the ideas and
information are organized. Students will have the ability to brainstorm and plan the text. It will
create flow for the students like me in studying. It clarifies students on what the context is all
about. Developed ideas will form.

Excluding unnecessary information will help in lessening the time we consume in


studying the text or when creating an academic essay. Knowing the weaknesses of the academic
text is also important. The academic text will be much easier to understand. The topics have their
own supporting details.
