Historical Background of Human Resource Management


Period in the Philippine History and Human Resource Management

The evolution of Human Resource Management has taken a significant


milestone especially that the country is gradually transforming globally. It is expected to
continuously evolve over time due to the industrialization particularly in the emergence
of technological revolution.

The birth of Human Resource Management has given rise to different changes from
administrative approach which focuses more on paper works to more strategic one which
centers upon the interest both employee and employer for the improvement of human welfare
and the realization of the department’s goal. This transformation was due to several factors
most significantly the parturition of industrialization in the country.

It also talks through the external and internal factors in the environment which should be
consider so that proper management and work participation among its members will be
encouraged. The internal functions that affects Human Resource management includes the
policies set by the company to address certain organizational conflicts among its members. In
other words, in order for the system to function well it must also cater the different needs and
diversities of its employees. On the other hand, external forces that affects the function of
Human Resource Management are mainly economic, globalization, cultural and technological
aspects. Economic aspect deals with the activities set by the company in order to meet the
needs of the present society. Globalization aspect vend to equip human workforce with the
development of skilled and knowledgeable employee. Cultural aspects dwells on the belief and
aspiration of the working force. Lastly, the technological aspects intend to be more challenging
and demanding as it is prevalent now, thus, the need for human force that is knowledgeable on
it is extremely important. All of these factors greatly influence the Human Resource
Management as these are the things that are needed to consider in order to develop policies
that will both benefit the employee and the goals of the company.

With rapid growth of globalization, definite changes also arise in the Human Resource
and Management especially now that the world in suffering in health crisis new trends in Human
Resource profession has emerged. One of that is the development of “Work from Home
Arrangement” which safeguard the security of an employee. Another one is the blossoming of
the “employee wellness program” that is concern with the overall health of the working force.
Clearly, the Human Resource Management has identified employee’s vital role and that they are
asset in every department.

As I have reflected on the discussion, I can say that I gain more knowledge and
understanding on Human Resource Management. And I am very happy that the company
specifically the education department recognizes the indispensable role of their employees
through which there are several programs, activities, as well as compensation being
implemented to encourage teachers to work better. Though the system may not be perfect, yet,
it is trying all its best to cater the needs of their employee to pay off their hard work in delivering
quality education. As a teacher, we don’t really know the future ahead of us, thus, it is important
that we must be ready. Learning new things especially this Human Resource Management is
essential to better know how to handle people with different personalities and different culture.
