2. Unit Topic: Strength Training Program 3. Grade level and Course: 9th-12th Grade High School Physical Education 4. CA Content Standards: High School a. 1.2 Observe and analyze the lifting techniques of another person (or oneself through video) and write an analysis of the performance. b. 1.5 Measure and assess multiple performances of another person in the following areas: balance, reaction time, agility, coordination, power, and speed. c. 2.1 Establish a set of personal physical fitness goals, using the principles of training, and create a strength-training and conditioning program. d. 2.7 Develop and use a personal physical fitness log to record all workout data on a daily basis. e. 3.5 Identify and analyze weight-training and fitness activities that enhance personal enjoyment. 5. Project Summary: Students will work in groups and organize a strength training program based on their personal goals and exercise routine along with observations of others training in the group. 6. Final Project: Students will write a short essay on their personal fitness goals along with what particular exercises they will be doing based on a strength training program. Then, after observing others in the group doing strength training exercises, they will write another essay on their observations based on what weight-lifting exercises were done, how many sets and repetitions were done and were the exercises done safely. Finally, students will include a short video of themselves doing a couple of strength training exercises. 7. How students will be assessed: Scoring guide for assignment that includes 2 short essays and at least 1 video
