Write down some notes about the movie.

Title of the movie:

CLANNAD Movie ver.
Type of the movie:
game-based, affectional, fantastic
Setting:
About 21th century, in a small and regular town called ‘Hikarizaka’. Some believe this town can
make your wish come true. Hero ‘Okazaki Tomoya’ and the heroine ‘Furukawa Nagisa’ are normal
high school students.
Plot summary:
The whole film is describing the hero and the heroine’s life from Form 6 to 7 years later when
they have their child. When they are in high school, the film talks about Tomoya’s love story and how
he spent last year with his friends in the first person’s view of Tomoya. After he graduated, the film
talked about family love and the connection between town and people who live there.
Are there any messages in the movie? Do you agree with them?
This movie has an obvious message and I absolutely agree with them. Firstly, CLANNAD is a
short form of ‘Call Life As Natality, Noticing, Accompanying, Death’ and I see this word as my motto.
If you let me describe the main theme of the movie I think it will be ‘change’. Change is inevitable for
everything in the world. Tomoya gained many things he loved and he also lost many things he loved.
But no matter what happened to him, he must live on.
List a few major events in the movie.
When Tomoya was young he had a conflict with his drunken father and caused permanent
damage to his right hand. Since that incident he went downhill and become a incompetent student.
Tomoya fell in love with Nagisa in Form 6 who repeated Form 6 one year because of a long-standing
fever. 2 years after graduation from Tomoya, he and Nagisa married and had a child called ‘Ushio’.
Unfortunately, with the birth of Ushio and the long-standing fever, Nagisa died. 5 years later Ushio
gets killed by the same illness as her mother but the town makes time go back to the time when Ushio
was born and this time Nagisa didn’t die. They finally live happily together.
Which part/scene of the movie did you enjoy most? Why?
I enjoyed the scene where Ushio died in the snow the most. It is because Ushio knew that she
was gonna die and hoped Tomoya could bring her outside to watch the snow. It was extremely
heartbreaking and made me feel the same despair with Tomoya. Nagisa saved Tomoya from despair
once but she was gone, Ushio saved him from the pain of losing Nagisa but Ushio died in the same
way as Nagisa. This was so hopeless just like destiny is playing Tomoya for fun.
Who is your favourite character and why do you like him/ her most?
My favourite character is Nagisa. I like her so much because she was so weak, but she was also
strong. One is physical and one is mental. As I mentioned above, she had a long-standing fever.
However, she never gave up on herself just because of this illness. She used her own way to prove
herself to the world that she can do many things just like normal people. After her graduation she went
to work in a restaurant as a waitress. It was very hard for her but she made it. Even though the doctors
don’t suggest she have a baby as there is a risk for her weak body, she still had a healthy and strong
baby in the end. Besides, she is gentle and soft too. She made Tomoya realize and respect his father.
Although at the beginning Tomoya is reluctant, she gives him sufficient time to calm down and forgive
his father. It is great to have a wife who supports you that much as Nagisa. Last but not least, Nagisa
pointed out the main message of this film. ‘If the town also has its mind and spirit, and it also hopes
everyone who lives there can be happy, there will be no such thing as coincidence. People who live
there love the town, the town also loves the people who live there, just like a big family.’ said Nagisa.
