REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The website of Punto write about the cases and charges of Dr. Jose Rizal that on December

6, 1896, the trial of Dr. Jose Rizal by a Spanish military court for sedition, rebellion and

conspiracy, began. This leads to his execution and martyrdom. At the time of his arrest, Rizal

was supposed to leave for Cuba after he was allowed by Spanish Governor-General Ramon

Blanco, who was sympathetic to him, to serve as a military surgeon in Cuba, where there was

also a revolution against Spain. Thus, Rizal was executed on December 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan

(Luneta), which has been renamed Rizal Park in his memory.

According to Miguel A. Bernard’s book, the trial of Rizal that led to his execution was

distinguished by three characteristics. The first was rashness. The second was a malicious

adherence to legal formalities that gave the appearance of legality and justice. In contrast to the

observance of legal forms, the third was a disregard for the demand for true substantive justice.

The records of Rizal's cases, which were kept in the military archives in Segovia, were brought

to Madrid and meticulously transcribed by Wenceslao Retana.

SUMMARY

By the responses of the respondents, we can see how powerful the Spanish were in

accusing Rizal of a flaw and false cases and charges in order to sentence him to death. The

execution of our national hero by the friars and the Spanish government was still an injustice to

us. A biased and illegal accusation of Rizal's cases and charges about his novels and works

resulted in his execution in the Bagumbayan on December 30, 1896. By Rizal’s works, Filipinos

are instilled with a strong blood running through their veins, opening their minds and hearts to

the cruelties, abuses, and injustices perpetrated by the Spanish here in the Philippines, inspiring

them to fight for our freedom and peace. As a result, our national hero's death leaves us feeling

deeply indebted to him for his sacrifices.
