BACKGROUND RESEARCH:

a. Why fire burns in water when nail polish is added?


 Nail polish is flammable because of the ingredient acetone, also known
as dimethyl ketone or 2-propanone.
b. What happens when you mix nail polish with water?
 Nail polish is not soluble in water so it might float on top or settle at the
bottom.
c. How flammable is nail polish?
 Nail polish is extremely flammable, mainly because of the amount of
acetone it contains. The chemicals that make up this colourful finger
paint can easily ignite if exposed to the right about of heat.
d. Is nail polish still flammable when dry?
 Yes. Most waterproof paints and varnishes are quite flammable when
dry.

HYPOTHESIS:

 A fire burns in water when you add nail polish on it.

EXPERIMENT:

 First, you should prepare the materials. Second, put ¾ of water on the
glass. Then, put some nail polish on the water. After that, lit it using lighter
or matches.
IS THE PROCEDURE WORKING?

 Yes.

CONCLUSION:

 A fire burns in water because I added the nail polish. Nail polish is
extremely flammable mainly because of the acetone or also known as
dimethyl ketone or 2-propanone it contains.
