Direction. Write your answer under the question show your solution.

I. Given the equation,

3 FeO + 2 Al → 3 Fe + 𝑨𝒍𝟐 𝑶𝟐

If 50 grams of FeO reacted with 25 grams of Al,

a.) Which is the limiting reagent? How many moles of the

excess reagent will be left?

For Feo
Molar mass = ( 55.85 g/mol x 1) + (16 g/mol x 1) = 71.85 g/mol

For Al
Molar mass = 27 g/mol x 1 = 27 g/mol

Mole of Al2O2 = 50g Feo x 1mole FeO x 1mole Al202 = 0.23196 Moles of Al2 O2
71. 85 g FeO 3 moles FeO

Moles of Al2O2 = 25g Al x 1 mole Al x 1 mole Al2 02 = 0.463 moles of Al2O2

27 g Al 2 moles Al

Moles of Al consumed = 0.23196 mol Al 2O2 x 2 moles Al = 0.46 moles of Al consumed

1 mole Al202

Initial moles of Al = 25 g Al x 1 mole of Al = 0.93 initial moles of Al

27 g Al

Moles of Al left = 0.93 mol – 0.46 mol = 0.47 moles of Al left

b.) How many grams of 𝑨𝒍𝟐 𝑶𝟐 will be formed?

(Atomic Mass: Fe= 38.85 amu, O= 16 amu, Al= 27 amu)

Molar mass = (27 g/mol x 2 ) + (16 g/mol x 3) = 102 g/mol

Since the FeO is the limiting reagent

Mass of Al2O2 = 0.23196 moles Al2O2 x 102 g Al202

1 mole Al202

Mass of Al2O2 = 23.66g
