I. TOPIC: Writing CVC words

II. OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:

a. Standard E03D1.1.9a “Produce a simple sentence.”


b. Standard 16.1.2-3.4L “Follow simple oral directions with visual or nonverbal support
(e.g., Write your name on the top left-hand side of the paper.)”

After participating in a tactile writing activity, TWSBAT write two CVC words without mistakes
using minimal prompts.

III. TEACHING PROCEDURE:


a. Anticipatory Set:
i. Pour oatmeal on desk and say “it is learning time! Today we are going to
practice your writing!”
b. Development 1: Practice Writing Letters:
i. Teacher will help student practice writing letters in the oatmeal using hand-
over-hand instruction or verbal prompts.
ii. Practice writing A, G, C T, S, H E, O W, and I
c. Development 2: Review Words:
i. The teacher will have cards that have pictures of the words.
ii. Review the pictures with the student saying the picture and the letters in the
word.
d. Development 3/Guided Practice: Practice Writing Words:
i. Teacher will hold up a card and ask the student what letters/sounds are in the
word.
ii. Teacher will ask the student to write the word
1. If necessary, the teacher will give the student the word letter by letter
2. If necessary, the teacher will use hand-over-hand instruction for the first
word or two.
iii. Practice writing words:
1. Cat
2. Gate
3. Fish
4. Mom
5. Hat
6. Fat
7. Sand
8. Cow
9. Hot
10. Rake

IV. CLOSURE
a. Ask student to write the word ‘Wow’. Teacher says, “Wow _______ (as she points to
the word ‘wow’), you did such an amazing job!”

V. MATERIALS:
a. Picture Cards
b. Oatmeal
c. Lesson plan
d. Computer w/touch screen
e. Desk

VI. ADAPTATIONS:
a. If student struggles with writing in the oatmeal, attempt to use the computer
touchscreen.
b. If student has difficulty remembering the letters in the word, the teacher may say the
letter sound before the student writes it. Student should know letter from letter sound.

VII. EVALUATIONS:
a. Student should be able to write two CVC words with minimal prompting during guided
practice. (Formative)

a. Was my student engaged?
b. Was my lesson appropriate for this student?
c. Did either of my options for writing work for this student?
d. Were there any limitations that kept this student from participating fully?
