Therefore, there are 3 Cavite mutiny accounts. The account of Trinidad Pardo de Tavera,
where he wrote the Filipino version of Cavite mutiny of 1872. He stated that The Cavite
Insurrection was simply a mutiny by the Cavite people the Cavite arsenal's Filipino troops and
employees who turned out to be unhappy as a result of the abolition of their privileges. Jose
Montero y Vidal wrote the Spanish version titled Historia General de Filipinas, and it is also
explained how biased was Tavera’s version of mutiny, and Rafael Izquierdo, who officially report
the happenings of Cavite mutiny. He chastised the native clergy, professors, and certain people in
his report. The instigators of the Cavite Mutiny were Manila and adjacent regions.
2. Why should the account of Pio Valenzuela be read with caution? Explain (10pts.)
Pio Valenzuela’s version is called the “Cry of Pugad Lawin” and was most likely written on
August 23, 1896. But why should be cautious on his version when it was claimed that he is an
eyewitness of the event. The reason for this warning is that there is an inconsistency in his
account. The conviction is not that strong which makes his whole version unreliable.

a. There is only one account of the First Catholic Mass in the Philippines.
I disagree with the statement above because based on what I have researched there are 2
most common narrative accounts of the first catholic mass in the Philippines. The first one is the
account of Pigafetta. Pigafetta’s account are abundant of detailed information and witnesses that
have strong testimonies about the first mass however, there is also a version where the first mass
actually happened in Butuan city. Said the historian, Gabriel Atega.
