Activity 2: For today’s activity, you need to read first the SIM before you proceed on
answering this activity. Your task is to differentiate the following topics.
1. Artist and Artisan
Artist is a person involved in various activities that involves art. It is someone who
produces arts, practices art, or even doing art itself. Artist is the one who are expert in the
field of something that includes art. They expressed themselves by creating art through
dancing, singing, poet, films and many more. Artisan is a person engage in craftsmanship
and someone who creates something that is made by hands. They are the ones who are
expert in the field of making crafts such as sculptures, statues, and etc. They the ones
who are skilled in a job that needs manual skills who does not use any technology nor
machines.

2. Commercial Value and Artistic Value

Commercial Value is an objective point of view in giving value of an art. It focuses on


how much it is worth in money and how it costs. It declares its actual price for
personal/public transactions between the artist and the buyer. Artistic Value is an
subjective point of view in giving value of an art. It is how the viewer appreciates and give
critics in the work and how the artist itself gives importance in his/her work. It is giving the
artist a decision on what is the right thing to do and how would they express more the
meaning of an artwork.

3. Commercial Art and Art for Art’s sake

Commercial Art is a creative services that is made for commercial basis with an
intention of advertising the art. It can be seen in any platforms such as television,
magazine, newspaper, websites and many more. It is like a wide market where you can
sell works and offer services that involves art. Art for Art’s Sake (I’art pour I’art) is a slogan
or belief of an artist that explains art is beauty itself and it does not need more reasons
for it to be created since it is reasonable enough. It also does not engage in any political
or cultural views but rather it focuses more on the view of an artist about the pleasure of
art above everything else.

4. Primary Language and Secondary Language

Primary Language is the language in which a person have known since birth until he
grew up and it could also be called “mother tongue” which means that it is the first
language known by a person. Secondary Language is the language learned by a person
in a specific area for the purpose of a better communication and it is the extension of skills
in language learning from the first language known.

5. Technical Factor and Ideational Factor


Technical Factor is another way of creating art by making use of other techniques in
doing an art which includes using different strokes in painting, styles in drawing and etc.
It is an idea that making use of one’s creativity to do something new from the usual.
Ideation Factor is a recommendation from people who are related or not related in art that
contributes on the essence of innovating another piece of work. These are the factors
that is suggested by other people’s opinion to create and produce work.
