Let’s Check
Activity 1. Now that you know what is Art and Artwork. Let us try to check your
understanding. Differentiate the following:
1. Artist and Artisan
 In their profession itself, Artist is more accomplished than artisan, It seems artist
are the one who like to paint, sculpture and such in order to create a magnificent
piece, while Artisan are the one who work with their hands yet produced with
outputs whether a furniture or expensive gadgets.

2. Commercial Value and Artistic Value

 The first I heard about Commercial Value, I thought of Market Value or any Value
related to business. Commercial Value is based on the money or cash in its face
value, while Artistic Value is based on the emotion and feelings of an artist to
their piece.

3. Commercial Art and Art for Art’s sake

 Commercial Art, for me, it is a product for an individual’s satisfaction and needs.
It is to give the product to person’s wants and needs. While Art for Art’s sake is
based on the feeling and emotions of an artist towards to the people. It is to
express the emotion of the piece created by the artist.

4. Primary Language and Secondary Language

 Between the primary and secondary language of art, Primary Language, it is a
first and dominant language, is where we know from the very beginning up until
now, for example, surviving, even it is not related to Art, and also education.
Additionally, since it is called Primary Language, where we can respond and
speak anything, like a royalty. While Secondary Language, it is a lower level than
a primary, is having a greater amount of works of art, which can create a
tradition due to many of works in art. Also, it can give a large meaning to the arts
with many outputs of artworks.

5. Technical Factor and Ideational Factor

 Technical Factor is based on the experience and intelligence of an artist, which
they can create through it. While Ideational Factor is based on what you want,
which it has more freedom then technical factor, it is also based on the emotion
and feelings, can be nature or such, it depends on what the artist wants to do.
Let’s Analyze

What Makes an Art Valuable?

Art is creating a subject with an imagination and skill, yet difficult. Art
emphasizes the artists’ behavior; which art cannot lie. Art can give the emotion and
feelings to the watcher or people. Art can be any form, it can be solid and liquid,
whether it is from a solid rock to a wet paint. Art is freedom, people can do anything
they want. Which is why Art is important to human lives.

From elementary to college, there will always be Art subject, in order to

understand what is Art and to make an Art freely. Art is still valuable to people
especially students, without art we cannot give a colorful project or activities. Valuing
and understanding Arts is like babysitting an infant, whenever you want to take care the
infant, it will become healthier and more loved, similar to understanding the Arts,
whenever you want to study and make an effort of it, you, as a person, will grow to love
the Arts.

In conclusion, Art is like a precious gem that need to take care of. Art is useful to
ourselves; Art is an important tool for expressing feelings and emotion for everyone.
