There are two things to consider or remember in creating a work of art. One is Media or Medium, the other
is the technique or process.
Art Process on the other hand, are the action involved in making the art or masterpiece such as Drawing,
painting, etching, stamping (2D Art) or Sculpting, carving, constructing, welding (3D Art).
Every artist has his own style, process and media used in creating a masterpiece in which sometimes we can
easily tell whose artwork or a painting we are looking at. Which, critics sometimes use as basis in evaluating an
artwork.
How do you think should we evaluate an artwork? Is simply Liking or disliking enough?
The task of evaluating a work of art, such as a painting or a sculpture, requires a combination of objective
in`formation and subjective opinion. Yes, it's true that art appreciation is highly subjective, but the aim of evaluating
a picture is not simply to ascertain whether you like/dislike a picture, but WHY you like/dislike it. And this requires a
certain amount of knowledge. After all, your assessment of a drawing produced by a 14-year old child in a school
playground, is likely to be quite different from a similar drawing by a 40-year old Michelangelo. To put it simply, art
evaluers need to generate facts upon which to base their opinions: namely, facts about (1) the context of the
artwork; and (2) the artwork itself. Once we have the facts, we can then make our assessment. The more
information we can glean about the context, and the work of art itself, the more reasoned our assessment will be.
Art evaluation will also help us identify the art movement it belongs, or the artist who made the artwork or
the origin of the artwork, thus we can also identify who influenced an artist with the kind of artwork or masterpiece
they have created.
Philippine art or Filipino Artist is said to be a product of cultural influences, but is especially skillful at taking
these influences and making it their own. Most of the key art movements found in the Philippines have Western
origin.
