Shopkeeper

The selected user group is Shopkeepers as we have daily access with them. Through this user group we
can identify that Shopkeepers used to carry out so many duties such as helping customers, taking
payments, providing bills, keeping proper records of stocks etc. They used to manage their own
independent corner shop but it’s not easy task, even they hire the staff also for managing the store. Their
life can be somewhat relatable easily. In my known area there was a market of 6 shops like Cybercafé,
Kirana store, Stationary shop, medical shop, Beauty salon and gift store.

Step-2

Preconceived notions and biases:

My preconceived notions about shopkeepers are that

 They are hardworking, for building their business they can do anything.
 Even they are not much literate, but they are very good in their calculations, stock keeping, and
maintain proper records etc.,
 They are not time bounded as their working time may varies according to the seasons or
situations.
 They don’t have any fixed income and their earning also varies according to the customers needs
and demands.
 Shopkeepers tries to maintain good relationship with their locals.
 They are Risk takers sometimes their business gives them good profit but sometimes they face
loss also.
 Even for maintaining the stock or fulfilling customers demand they used to travel also.

STEP-3

Everyday work and duties:

If we talk about shopkeepers day, they open their shop at 11 am to 9pm (which as said maybe varies) and
from that time they got busy for the whole day they don’t even have time to sit. Attending customers is a
tough task and this is what shopkeepers used to do for entire day. They solve the queries or can say
problem of customers and fulfil their demands. They used to convince the customers for purchasing the
product. They must know each detail about the stock and products they have. Their responsibility is to
give best services and appropriately maintain the stock. They also keep all the essential or seasonal items
check with them. They even hire the staff also for providing good services or for helping them.

PAIN POINTS AND PRODUCTIVE BLOCKERS:
 When they are doing the work they face some difficulties, pain points and productivity blockers
like hectic schedule, no personal life or sometimes they don’t even have time for family. The
capital they try to invest for building their business to upper level but are not much capable.
