TYPES OF ENTREPRENEUR

There are different types of entrepreneurs. According to Christine Miller in The

Resourceful Entrepreneur, they can be categorized into four general types .

1. The Social Entrepreneur

This type of entrepreneur offers products and services with the overall
intention of creating social good. The profit is often reinvested into the business venture
rather than being distributed to the shareholders.

2. The Serial Entrepreneur

This type of entrepreneur sets up businesses and brings them to a stage of

development from where they can move on to the next project either by selling or handing
over the business to a successor or group of successors while retaining some degree of
investment.

3. The Lifestyle Entrepreneur

This type would choose a business that would reflect their passion. Focus is on
doing something one loves rather than pursuing profit. The business venture often springs
from a hobby, favorite sport, or family activity.

4. The Solopreneur
This type operates alone and manages all aspects of the business. Today, this is
made possible with the use of ICT tools which make multitasking easier.
Identifying the Buyer and the Seller

When planning a business, a lot of important things must be considered. You have to
make a lot of decisions as a seller. Remember, you have to know and choose the right type
of business, the right product, or the right services and prepare for the needs of the
business.

First, you will find out the meaning of the terms BUYERS and SELLERS to help you
identify clearly their roles as entrepreneurs.

Buyers are:

 Person who buys the goods or services from the seller.

 He/she is the consumer who makes use of the goods to meet his/her needs or wants
and those of his/her family.
 Persons or organizations that purchase materials from suppliers for products or
services. Manufacturers who purchase raw materials needed for production.
 Persons or organizations who agree to purchase the finished products or services
presented with the prescribed or correct features.

Here are some considerations that buyers are after when purchasing goods,
products, and services:

1. To obtain quality goods at the lowest and reasonable costs.

2. To research, write request for bids, propose or quote for products and services.
3. To evaluate information received.
4. To purchase on agreed amount of goods for a certain period of time.
5. To pay the agreed price on what had been purchased.

Sellers are:

 Persons or group of persons who transfer goods and services to the buyers in
exchange for money.
 Persons who offer things to buyers in return of something which most of the time is
money.
 Vendors, creditors, dealers, merchants, and suppliers who dispose things in return
for money.

Below are the duties of a Seller:

1. Make business fairly with buyers.

2. Deliver on time, with proper care, and place of delivery.
3. Provide a warranty for the product sold to the buyer.

Sellers also have set of rights. These are the following:

1. Receive the right payment for the amount agreed upon for the item sold.
2. Be able to collect for securing against loss or damage of goods bought by the
buyer.
3. Get back the goods when the buyer fails to pay.

The Seller as Buyer

A seller is also a buyer because he/she needs to buy the goods or products he/she
will sell. He/she buys these goods either from the manufacturer or the producer of the
goods, or from wholesales or middlemen.

Planning and Producing Simple Products to Sell

Are you creative, inventive, and resourceful? Are you observant of the people and
things around you and find ways and means of converting some of the things you see into
marketable items and products? If for instance, you see a pile of old magazines and
newspapers in your garage, what can you do with this to make it marketable? Or you hear
your classmates complaining about the lack of snacks being sold in the canteen. What
simple snack products can you make or buy that you think they will like?
Find out what simple products you can sell to create your own simple business. After
all, big businesses start from small ones!

Young boys and girls like you can be potential entrepreneurs. Use your creativity and
resourcefulness, as well as your skill, to create simple products to sell. To ensure that your
products will be sold, you need to make a simple survey, whether in your school or in your
neighborhood to identify what potential customers need. A simple survey can be an
interview with some classmates in your school if you intend to sell in school or residents in
the neighborhood. Then look around you to find out if what they need is already available in
the neighborhood or in the school. If it is not yet available or if it is available but it is not
enough to meet the demand, then make a decision on whether to create the product
needed, and what product it would be.

Here are some simple products that you can produce and sell in school and in the
neighborhood.
