Activity Sheet #1: The Landforms in Our Surrounding

Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

Landforms are features on the Earth’s surface that make up the terrain such as
mountains, valleys, plains or plateau. They also include coastal features such
as peninsulas or bays and underwater features such as ocean basins and mid-
ocean ridges. Mountains are major landforms with higher elevation than the
land around them. They have steep slopes and a summit, which is the highest
point of elevation. Hills are smaller landforms than mountains, but they share
many of the same characteristics. Plateaus are raised areas of wide, flat
terrain. They are formed by volcanic activity and erosion, like mountains, but
don’t have a summit. Plains are a major landform known for their sea-level
elevation and wide expanses. Peninsula is a type of coastal landform. It is a
piece of land almost entirely surrounded by water but connected to the
mainland on one side. Volcano is a vent or fissure in the planet's crust through
which lava, ash, rock and gases erupt. A volcano is also a mountain formed
by the accumulation of these eruptive products. Valleys are depressed areas of
land–scoured and washed out by the conspiring forces of gravity, water, and
ice. Island or isle is any piece of subcontinental land that is surrounded by
water. Swamp is an area of land permanently saturated, or filled, with water.
Many swamps are even covered by water.

Directions: Take a picture of your surroundings. Describe the land where your house is built.
Write what landform does it belong and why does it belong to that landform.
Note: The pictures should be sent together with this activity sheet.

Activity Sheet #2: The Bodies of Water in Our Surroundings

Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

There are several varied types of bodies of water. Lake is normally full of fresh
water and surrounded on all of its side by land. Oceans is composed of salt water,
they cover 70% of the Earth’s surface, and, in reality, are one “World Ocean” that
we’ve broken up into five smaller divisions. Sea is also made up of salt water, and
is a large body of water entirely or partially surrounded by land. Waterfall is a river
or other body of water's steep fall over a rocky ledge into a plunge pool below.
Waterfalls are also called cascades. River is a ribbon-like body of water that flows
downhill from the force of gravity. A river can be wide and deep, or shallow
enough for a person to wade across. Spring is the result of an aquifer being filled to
the point that the water overflows onto the land surface. A stream is a body of water
that flows on Earth’s surface. The word stream is often used interchangeably with
river, though rivers usually describe larger streams. A gulf is said to be a large body
of water that is surrounded by land and having only a narrow entrance along a strait.
A bay is also a large body of water that is surrounded by land but not as enclosed as
a gulf. Moreover, the bay has a wider opening than the gulf. A gulf is a body of
water in which the water has eroded very deeply into the adjoining land. On the
contrary, a bay has an inward land curve.

Directions: Observe the pictures below. Answer the questions.

Activity Sheet #3: Types of Weather

Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given place and time in regards to heat,
cloudiness, dryness, sunshine, wind, and rain. It depends majorly on climate,
seasons, and various other factors. Sunny is described as the sun shining and giving
warmth to the land. There are little to no presence of clouds. Cold temperatures and
wind, however, will also be present on some areas of the earth. Cloudy, clouds form
up a barrier to block the rays of the sun. At the same time, it also traps heat from the
ground, which explains why the heat doesn’t instantly go away during cloudy
weather. Windy is majorly formed as a warm air mass rises upward and cold air
rushes in to fill the vacuum. Wind gusts also form as air is pushed into smaller and
smaller spaces. You can tell it’s windy due to the tress swaying in one direction.
When the clouds are heavy enough, they cannot hold the water or snow anymore so
they fall in the form of raindrops, in the case of rain; or snowflakes, in the case of
snow. Stormy describes weather conditions like thunder, lightning, dark clouds, wind,
and pelting rain.

Directions: Observe the weather for a day. Set an alarm on each time written on the table
below. Take a picture outside through a window. Write the type of weather you have in that
time. Answer the questions after.
Note: The pictures should be sent together with this activity sheet.

Activity Sheet #4: Effects of Weather on the Community

Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

Weather, consciously or unconsciously, affects the daily choices you make. It

helps to determine whether you dress to stay warm or cool, enjoy outside activities
or stay inside – or evacuate to a safe place during extreme weather conditions. It
can have both immediate and delayed effects on health, food production and
general well-being.

Directions: Weather has an effect on the activities that you want to do in a day. List down three
activities you can do in each weather.

Activity Sheet #5: Safety and Precautionary Measures in

Different Types of Weather
Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

An emergency can happen anywhere and anytime and it can happen to you. In an
emergency situation, it is vital to think clearly and react quickly. If an emergency
occurs, it is essential for you to know what to do and what not to do. The time to find
this out is before an emergency happens. Once an emergency occurs, do not panic.
Emergency information will be broadcast on the Emergency Alert System, on local
radio and television stations, the NOAA weather radio and the Cable Interrupt System.

Directions: Since we are a tropical country, we always experience a lot of storm surge. What
are the different things you have to do when there’s a storm surge? List down at least five (5)
things you have to do when this happens.

Activity Sheet #6: Natural Objects Seen in the Sky at Daytime and Nighttime Science 3

Name: ______________________________________________ Score: ____________

Grade 3: ________________________________ Date: _____________

Common things that we can see in the sky are clouds, raindrops, the Sun, the Moon,
stars, airplanes, kites, and birds. The Moon and stars are in the sky during the day,
but we cannot usually see them because during the day, the Sun brightens the sky.
The Sun is actually a star, and it is the closest star to the Earth. Night sky, usually
associated with astronomy from Earth, refers to the nighttime appearance of celestial
objects like stars, planets, and the Moon, which are visible in a clear sky between
sunset and sunrise, when the Sun is below the horizon.

Directions: With a help of a guardian or parent, take a picture of daytime and nighttime sky.
Write at least three(3) to five(5) differences on the space below. Note: The pictures should be
sent together with this activity sheet.
