ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher Mr. Vinay
Pandey, who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful project of Maths on
“SETS with real life examples” , Who also helped me in completing my project. I
came to know about so many new things I m really thankful to them. Secondly I would
like to thank my parents and friends who helped me a lot in finalizing this project
within the limited time frame.

PREFACE
I am feeling great pleasure in putting the mathematics project file for class XI in
the hands of honourable academic commodity. The main purpose of writing this
project file is to provide the practical knowledge of SETS . I am extremely grateful to
my parents and friends for providing wings to my ideas. I would also like to thank my
mathematics teacher Mr. Vinay Pandey for appreciating my work in the field of
Mathematics .About “ Sets and its practical applications” is covered under this project
work.
What are Sets ?

 A set is a well-defined collection of objects, whose elements are fixed and

cannot vary. It means set doesn’t change from person to person. Like for
example, the set of natural numbers up to 7 will remain the same as
{1,2,3,4,5,6,7}. Still, if we say the set of best players in a football team, then the
name of footballers could vary every time we ask about the best players, as
each person has its own choice to consider the best player. Similarly, if we
speak about the set of rivers in India, the elements of the set will remain the
same. So, this is a real-life example of a set. In mathematics, we represent the
sets in curly brackets { }.
What are VENN DIAGRAMS ?

 Venn’s diagrams are the diagram that is used to represent the sets, relation
between the sets and operation performed on them, in a pictorial way. Venn
diagram, introduced by John Venn (1834-1883), uses circles (overlapping,
intersecting and non-intersecting), to denote the relationship between sets.
 Venn diagram is also called a set diagram or a logic diagram showing different
set operations such as the intersection of sets, union of sets and difference of
sets. It is also used to depict subsets of a set.

13 major crops grown in the three states:-

 In Uttar Pradesh , the major crops are rice, maize, wheat ,sugarcane, pigeon pea,
sorghum, pearl millet, moong beans, Bengal gram, green peas, rapeseed, mustard, lentil
.

 In Meghalaya , the major crops are rice, maize, wheat.

 In Arunachal Pradesh , the major crops are rice, maize, millet, wheat, pulses,
sugarcane, ginger and oilseeds.
