Impedance Matching using Quarter wave Microstrip line:

The components are taken in the design window. The microwave plot, the lumped
resistor and the microstrip line are taken. The values were changed to the given values:
Now using the microstrip calculator we find the length and width of the patch for given
values of load and line impedances and also synthesis frequency:

Now the final circuit is:

Simulation is done from 0 to 15 Ghz with the step of 50 MHz , as the design frequency
is 7.06 Ghz:
The result is the plot of the Return Loss Vs Frequency after creating the report:
The smith chart graph is also plotted:

Impedance Matching Using Quarter-Wave Coaxial Cable:

Selecting the coaxial model and calculation its value according to the given parameters:
Now simulating for 0 to 35 Ghz , we find the Return loss and Smith chart graph:
Discussions:

For the microstrip line quarter wave transformer, the design frequency was 7.06 Ghz,
the length and width of the strip was calculated based on its impedance which depends
on the impedances of line and load.
The Return Loss (RL) plot shows the best value at the design frequency and as the
frequency deviates more from the design value, the RL gets worse.
The smith chart plot is shown by the red circle. It shows the changes of the load point
with the change of frequency.
For the case of coaxial cable, similar steps were performed. The parameters were found
using the impedance value given and also the outer diameter.
The Return Loss plot shows the peak at 15.8 GHz which is our design frequency. The
deviation from design frequency gives worse value for RL. The smith chart also gives
the value of several other parameters for different frequencies.

Ansoft Designer is used to model and simulate analogue, RF, and mixed-signal
applications and perform signal-integrity analysis. It is used for designing planar 2D
structures. It is basically a circuit block simulation type software. On the other hand CST
is used for simulating bulky structures in both 3D and 2D. Different geometries can be
made and different fields, power flows, can be observed. CST used the Finite Integral
Technique algorithm. It is a heavier software than Ansoft and required more time to
simulate.
