I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
• identify hyponyms (EN3V-IIIi-j-13.7);
• select the general class or generic name of the sets of hyponyms; and
• give the hyponyms or subcategories of a general class correctly.

A. Topic: Working with Hyponyms
B. Materials: laptop, PowerPoint Presentation
C. References: Grade 3 Module: Quarter 3-Module 3

III. Procedure:

A. Presentation/Introduction
• The teacher with give an activity to activate the prior knowledge of the pupils
about hyponyms.
➢ Directions: Identify what group of heroes does each set of pictures
belong to. Write the letters of the correct answers on a sheet of paper.
(Refer to Quarter 3-Module 3, page 3)

• The teacher will say: Are your answers correct? If you did not get the correct
answers, do not worry because there are still many activities that will help you
gain knowledge about our lesson today.

B. Modeling/ Teaching
• The teacher will give another activity.
➢ Directions: Give the general name for each set of pictures. Choose your
answers from the boxes and write them on your paper.
(Refer to Quarter 3-Module 3, page 4)

• Key Points: Hyponyms are words that refer to subcategories or members of a


more general or broader class. They are the specific examples of a general word.
• The teacher will say: In the previous activity, you have learned that cars, boats
and airplanes are specific examples of transportations. In addition, ants,
butterflies, and cockroach are hyponyms of insects.

C. Guided Practice
• The teacher will say: To deepen and enrich your understanding of hyponyms,
you may now proceed to the next activities.
➢ Directions: Match the general names in Column A to their set of
pictures in Column B. Write the letters of the correct answers on your
paper.

➢ Directions: Read the words inside the boxes. Then put them in the
correct column where they belong. Write your answers on paper.

D. Independent Practice

• Directions: Give the general name for each set of pictures. Choose your answers
from the words in the boxes below.
