SECTION 9.1.4 CHEMICALS

APPENDIX I

The following procedures should be followed for handling of Hydraulic (skydrol):

a. As skydrol acts as a paint remover, and is harmful to acetates,

deteriorates vinyls and softens plastics, spilled skydrols must be wiped off of
material surface with out any delay.
b. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with the skin. Skydrol is irritating to the
eye and the respiratory tracts and can cause drying and cracking of the skin.
c. Employees should wash hand thoroughly with soap and water before and
after work with skydrol.
d. Employees who work with skydrol longer than brief, intermittent periods should
apply a protective barrier cream, approved by ETHIOPIAN Medical
Department, at approximately two-hour intervals.
e. Note: Before cream application, hands should be thoroughly clean.
f. It is recommended that after the cream has been applied natural rubber gloves
be worn, preferably with cotton interlines.
g. Employees who work with skydrol for extended periods should wear clean
cloths daily and should remove such work clothing as soon after work as
possible.
h. In the event that clothing in contact with the skin becomes wet with skydrol, it
should be removed and washed before rewiring it. The skin should be promptly
and thoroughly washed with soap and water.
i. Eye protection should be worn whenever there is possibility of dripping,
splashing or squirting skydrol.

j. When a pressure leak develops, cover the leak with rags, if possible, to control
the resulting mist and leave the area until the mist has settled or dispersed. If it
is necessary to work in the mist, eye protection and respirator should be
worn.
k. Avoid exposure to vapors from overheated skydrol unless required respiratory
and eye protection is worn.
