3. Hazards identification

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW:
Flammable. Pungent styrene odor. Causes skin and
eye irritation. Inhalation causes headaches, nausea.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
effects of overexposure: for styrene
EYE : causes mild eye irritation
SKIN: causes skin irritation
INHALATION: causes headaches, nausea.
INGESTION: harmful if liquid is aspirated into lungs.

4. First aid measures

After inhalation: If adverse effects occur, remove to uncontaminated area.
Give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get immediate medical attention.
After skin contact: Immediately wash exposed skin with soap and water. Remove
contaminated clothing and thoroughly clean and dry before reuse.
Get immediate medical attention.
After eye contact: Flush eyes with plenty of water. Get medical attention if irritation
persists.
After swallowing: do NOT induce vomiting. Get immediate medical attention.

5. Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Water fog or fine spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical,
foam water fog, applied gently may be used as a blanket for fire extinguishment.
Special risks: May form toxic materials (carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide,
various hydrocarbons.)
Special protective equipment for fire fighting:
Wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and protective fire
fighting clothing .
Other information: Dense smoke is produced when product burns. Violent steam
generation or eruption may occur upon application of direct water
stream. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel a long distance
and accumulate in low areas.

6. Accidental release measures

Person-related precautionary measures: Do not breathe vapors. Eliminate all sources

of ignition in Vicinity of spill or released Vapor to avoid fire or explosion. Check area
with explosion meter before reentering area.
Environmental-Protection measures: Evacuate upwind of spills and contain with dike.
Procedures for cleaning/absorption: Pump with explosion-proof equipment, Remove
residual with hot soapy water, Solvents are not recommended for cleanup unless
the recommended.

7. Handling and storage

Handling: Empty containers may retain product residue (liquid and/or vapor).Do not
expose these containers to heat, flame, sparks, static electricity.
Storage: Store away from heat, ignition sources, and open flame in accordance
with applicable regulations. Keep container closed.

8. Exposure controls/personal protection

Specific control parameter: Styrene monomer: ACGIH TLV is 20ppm TWA,40ppm STEL,
skin. ACGIH classifies as A4. OSHA PEL is 50ppm TWA, 100ppm STEL, The styrene PEL
and STEL are in accordance with the OSHA-industry agreement dated March, 1996.
Personal protective equipment:
Respiratory protection: Use with adequate ventilation. If ventilation is inadequate,
use NIOSH certified respirator that will protect against organic
vapor and dust/mist.
Eye protection: Do not get in eyes. Wear chemical goggles.
Hand protection: Avoid prolonged or repeated contact. Wear protective
gloves such as :neoprene, nitrite rubber.
Industrial hygiene:

12. Ecological information

Ecotoxic effects: Based on information for styrene. Material is highly toxic to aquatic
organisms on an acute basis (LC50/EC50 between 0.1 and 1mg/L
in most sensitive species).
Further ecological data:

13. Disposal considerations

Product: Residues and spilled material are hazardous waste due to ignitability,
Disposal must be in accordance with applicable federal, state, or local
regulations.
Packaging: The container for this product can present explosion or fire hazards, even
when emptied, To avoid risk of injury, do not cut, puncture, or weld on or
near this container. Since the emptied containers retain product residue,
follow label warnings even after container is emptied.
