MY LEARNING EPISODE : ON –LINE LEARNING THROUGH MOOC

This episode provides me an opportunity to use my computer skills to explore on line learning
through MOOC’s (Massive Open On-line Courses )

MY INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this episode , I must be able to :
● identify MOOC’s that align with the NCBTS /PPST
● choose MOOC’s that will contribute to one’s own professional development.
● Explain how MOOC’s can be a tool for lifelong learning.

MY PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
I will be rated along the following:

● Quality of my observations and documentation

● Completeness and depth of my analysis
● Clarity of observation ,completeness, organization and time of submission
● Reflections / insights

MY LEARNING ESSENTIALS

Massive Open On –line Courses (MOOC’s) are on line courses open to big group of people.

MASSIVE , because MOOC’s are on-line courses designed for large number of participants, usually more than the
number of students that can fit a regular classroom. There can be hundreds or even be a thousand students or more.

OPEN , because there is mostly freedom of place ,pace, and time. Courses can be accessed by anyone ,anywhere as
long as they have internet connection Courses are open to everyone without entry qualifications. Some courses are for
free.

ONLINE , because all aspects of the courses are online.

COURSE , because MOOC course offers a full course experience including the ff:
● Educational content . example video, audio, text, games, simulations, social media and animation

● Facilitation interaction among peers. This builds a learning community through opportunities to
interact.
● Some interaction with the teacher or academic staff.

● Activities/tasks ,tests, including feedback .participants are provided with some feedback
mechanism .Can be automatically generated like quizzes, feedback from peers or teacher.

● Some kind of (non-formal) recognition options. Ex. Badges or certificate of completion A formal
certificate is optional and most likely has to be paid for.

● A study guide /syllabus which includes instructions as to how you may learn from the materials and
interactions presented.

The ff: are MOOC’s providers like Edx, Coursera, Canvass Network, Udacity , Udemy, Iversity. You will have a chance
to explore them as you go through this episode.

MY MAP
To realize my Intended Learning Outcomes, I will work my way through these steps.

1. Review the seven domains of NCBTS and Identify competencies I like to develop more.
2. Visit sites of MOOC providers and explore the courses offered that are relevant to NCBTS domains
I want to work on.
3. Reflect on how I can continue developing my skills through MOOC
MY TOOLS
1. Get a copy of NCBTS and go over the competencies
2. On the second column ,write the competencies you like to work with
3. Search for MOOC ‘s in the internet which are relevant to the competencies you identified .try the ff: sites.
