Welcome to Unit 2 Nice to meet you. In this unit you will learn language to give and
ask for personal information.

You are going to study these sections:

I. Reading: recognizing cognates.


In this section you are going to learn how to identify cognates to use them to
understand a reading. First you are going to watch a video about cognates and
then you are going to practice by doing some activities. Please, read always the
instructions to complete the activities successfully.

Now watch the video about cognates and answer these questions:
a. What is a cognate?
They are the words that are very similar in Spanish and English that have a lot in
common in writing and pronunciation.

b. Write five cognates mention in the video.

II. Vocabulary: Useful questions


In this section you are going to learn some useful questions. First you are going to
watch a video presenting some useful questions. Then you are going to watch
another video and this time you are going to guess by stopping the video after
each picture. After that you are going to do some activities to practice what you
have learned.

Activity 2.1
Watch the video and repeat the useful questions. Practice your pronunciation.

Watch the video and stop it after each picture and try to guess the question.

Click on activity 2.3 and complete the questions with a verb. Then make a screen

Click on activity 2.4 and complete the conversation with the missing words. Then

III. Grammar: be statements and yes/no questions

In this section you are going to learn to use the verb be in statements and yes/no
questions. First you are going to see a presentation and study it and answer some
questions about it. After that you are going to do some activities to practice what
you have learned.

Activity 3.1
Go to activity 3.1 and watch a video. Pay attention to the information. The video will
stop in some parts and you are going to answer the questions. When you finish,
make a screen capture of your score and paste it in the box.

Now click on activity 3.2 to test your knowledge. Answer the questions correctly
and don’t forget to make a screen capture of your score and to paste it in the box.
Activity 3.3
Click on activity 3.3 to complete the sentences and questions with the correct form
of the verb be. Then make a screen capture of your score and paste it here.
IV. Pronunciation: The English Alphabet
In this section you are going to learn and recognize the sounds of the alphabet.
This will help you to spell words in specific situations for example when
someone asks you to spell your name. First you are going to watch a video to
practice the pronunciation of the alphabet. I recommend you practice the
sounds of the letter. You can also watch the video with the alphabet song with
Ray Charles the famous singer. Then you are going to do an activity where you
are going to identify the sounds of the letters and finally you are going to record
yourself and spell your first and last name.

Activity 4.1
Watch the video about the alphabet and practice the sounds of the letter. If you
want you can also listen to the alphabet song with Ray Charles and sing it
together.

Activity 4.2
Click on activity 4.2 to identify the sounds of the letter. In this activity you are
going to choose the letters of a specific sound. Make a screen capture of your
score and paste it in the box.
Activity 4.3

Record yourself and say your name then spell your first
name and then your last name. Upload your audio to

V. Communication: Using polite language


In this section you are going to learn to use some polite language. First you are
going to watch a video where you can practice a conversation and where you
can identify some polite language. Then, you are going to learn some
vocabulary about polite language in Quizlet.

Activity 5.1
Click on activity 5.1 and watch the video. Listen and repeat the conversation
you here.

Activity 5.2
Click on activity 5.2 and do the matching exercise on Quizlet. Don’t forget to
register in www.quizlet.com so you can compete with your partners. Make a

VI. Vocabulary: Ordinal numbers
In this section you are going to learn to use and to pronounce the ordinal
numbers. First you are going to watch a video to practice the pronunciation.
Then, you are going to study the ordinal numbers through flashcards. Finally,
you are going to do some activities to practice them.

In this section you are going to learn to form wh questions with the verb be. You

VIII. Product: Listen and Write


Now we are going to use what we have learned during this unit, and you

Finally, you are going to write a little paragraph about yourself using the
information in the form.
