percent starting in the fall for the next school year.

Collegian TV’s Tatiana Montavon reports…

Pkg/TRT (1:34) The announcement came nearly two weeks ago. The two-

and-a-half percent increase in tuition marks the lowest

increase in two decades. However, just because it’s the

lowest raise in a while, doesn’t mean people are happy

about it, students and parents alike.

SOT/TRT :15 “We pay for our daughter’s college tuition, it makes it

Standup/TRT :12 Unlike public institutions, private universities like Butler

Collegian TV don’t guarantee their students a tuition lock, meaning that

the tuition raises every year. But regardless of that, it’s still

something that’s hard for Butler students to wrap their

heads around.
SOT/TRT :11
Super at :00 Hailea Royce / Butler “So even though the tuition wasn’t raised that much, it’s
student still enough where it’s impactful and it’s always looming in
the back of your head, you know?” :11

Some students are finding that because of the increase in

tuition, room and board, they’re having to look at other

options. Those options range from outside scholarships and

loans to transferring to a different university.

“I’m already struggling enough, having to pay for all this

tuition, because it’s already so high for a private school.
SOT/TRT :19 And yes, it’s a good education and everything, but it’s
Super at :00 Addi Bray / Butler student almost too excessive. And at this point, I may have to
transfer due to the tuition increase, and it’s kind of a scary

thought.” :19

With this announcement, some students are determined to

stay focused on their schoolwork. Others are left wondering

where exactly this extra money is going. For Collegian TV,

I’m Tatiana Montavon.
