Self-Assessment and Improvements (Week 5: February 28 – March 5)

My OJT started with a surprise, but a welcome one. I was tasked on doing what I did expect the
company to consider at first. However, because of that, my respect for the company and its management
grew deeper as they are committed in continuous improvement of the company and their project. I was asked
to come up with a Lean Six Sigma project for the company’s current construction project. It is a challenge,
surprise, and test, but I am determined to complete it. I want to prove my skills and show that I deserve the
title of being a CSSC-Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

I started my OJT in DYAS Construction Management and Consultancy as a part of their Operations
Department on February 28. I am tasked with creating a Lean Six Sigma Project for the company’s South 2
Residences Project. Hence, I requested the documents I need to observe the status of the project and how
the people involved work on it. While waiting for the said documents, I reviewed the CSSC Manual. Moreover,
I researched about potential LSS Project in the Construction Industry. I also watched online lectures on Lean
Construction, Last Planner, and Scrum to help refresh and further improve my knowledge about the subject
matter. Although I can perform the job and wholeheartedly willing to do so, I am surprised to know that I am
to conduct a Lean Six Sigma Project. For the past 4 weeks, I prepared myself by taking Design, Estimation,
and Scheduling training from different training organizations to familiarize myself with Structural and
Construction Engineering works. I also took a Safety Officer 3 Specialized Course, Loss Control
Management, to further improve my skills and knowledge. Despite that, the skills and knowledge I gained
from these workshops will not be put to waste. I may still use them for my future profession and for personal
endeavors. On Tuesday, March 1, I attended a PTG Meeting of the company and gained an idea on what
aspect should I focus the Lean Six Sigma Project. For the company’s privacy and protection, I am not
disclosing those details in this paper. On March 2, I researched more about potential Lean Six Sigma projects
and watched more online lectures. It fascinated me that I learned a lot in every video I watched this week.
Although I studied more than 400 pages of the CSSC Manual for my Green Belt Certification Exam, it still
amazed me how much more I need to learn. Moreover, the lectures from the said videos contain actual
projects that the lecturer has completed. Those actual projects inspired me to contribute to the company
through Lean Six Sigma, as I want to treat my OJT as an actual work. On March 3, I received some of the
documents I requested from the company representative and took time to study them. On March 4, I received
the other set of documents that I requested for the Lean Six Sigma project. I was also asked to prepare a
presentation about the latter. Hence, I studied the contents of the documents to gain insights on how the
construction project progresses and how the company manages it. I continued preparing the presentation on
March 5 along with a sample project on a report template that the company uses. I finished the sample project
on Sunday. It was a good experience to apply the knowledge I gained from my half-month study of Lean Six
Sigma to an actual project.

My first week in DYAS Construction Management and Consultancy went well. I was welcomed
warmly by the company president and the company representative. My documents have been processed
swiftly, and my requests are granted immediately. My opinions are heard, and my actions are valued. I
appreciate the DYAS CMS and its team, as they have entrusted me with their Lean Six Sigma project. In
return, I will do my best to contribute to their company and develop a Lean Six Sigma project that they will
value. Overall, I am excited with how my OJT with DYAS will unfold and is willing to take part in the company’s
endeavors.
