National foreword

This Part of BS 5964 is identical with ISO 4463-3:1995 Measuring methods for
building — Setting-out and measurement — Part 3: Checklists for the
procurement of surveys and measurement services published by the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO). It provides advice and guidance to those
involved in specifying and procuring, surveying and setting-out services required
during the development and construction of buildings and ancillary works, by
providing checklists of requirements from which selections can be made and to
which further items can be added and is not a document which should be invoked
into a contract.
BS 5964 provides guidance on the following aspects of setting out and
measurement:
— Part 1: Methods of measuring, planning and organization and acceptance
criteria;
— Part 2: Measuring stations and targets;
— Part 3: Checklists of the procurement of surveys and measurement services.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity
from legal obligations.

Summary of pages

pages 1 to 4, and a back cover.
This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had

Annex A (informative)
Dimensioning and setting-out from the same secondary setting-out lines
To achieve the required coordination, all parties involved in dimensioning and measuring should start from
the same reference lines both during the design stage (when indicating dimensions and positions on a
drawing) and on the construction site (when setting-out and carrying out compliance measurements).
An example of dimensioning and setting-out from the same secondary setting-out lines is given in
Figure A.1.
