ESci 124n-Dynamics of Rigid Bodies (Engineering Mechanics II)

Quiz No. 1

Introduction to Dynamics of Rigid Bodies

Name: Navarro, Bejay L. Date Submitted:

Course and Year: BSME II-A Score:
Offering no.: M2A2

Answer the following:

Essay. Discuss in your own words and answer the following questions briefly

1. In your own words, how do you define engineering mechanics?

Engineering mechanics is the application of mechanics to explain problems that entangle

habitual engineering elements.

2. Why is it important to study Dynamics of rigid body mechanics?

The importance of dynamics in the development of problem-solving abilities cannot be

overstated because it teaches us to consider how our bodies move and respond to forces.
We will also learn how to analyze word problems, extract important information, and solve
them.

3. Describe a practical situation where you can apply Newton's Three Laws of Motion
(one situation in each law).

First Law of Motion

Wearing a seat belt in the car while driving if an accident has occurred, or if the brake is
stepped on in the car suddenly, the body tends to resume its inertia and move forward.

Second Law of Motion

It is easier to push an empty shopping cart than a tree, because the main shopping cart
weighs more than the empty one.

Third Law of Motion

Every time your feet hit the ground when you run, the ground hits your feet with equal and
opposite force.
