Learning Needs Analysis

Overview
The Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) from Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a self-assessment survey
that identifies AWS skill gaps and recommends organizational and individual training plans to
address these gaps. The result is faster AWS skills acquisition and optimization of training
investments.

The LNA maximizes resources by ensuring

investments in training are applied
to the most relevant areas.

The LNA process

The LNA is a two-step process:
1. Complete the self-assessment survey. Individuals in the organization complete a self-
assessment, which measures cloud knowledge and skill across multiple functional areas.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, depending on role and the
depth of existing AWS skills.
2. Review skills gaps and training plans. AWS identifies skill gaps and generates training
plans based on survey results.

Intended audience
The LNA is best for organizations that:

• Are unsure of which staff members have AWS skills, and if those skills are sufficient,

• Have a large number of people to train, and/or

• Require data to justify an investment in training.

Reporting
LNA survey data is aggregated and analyzed. Analysis is performed at the company and individual
levels, and includes an organizational profile, AWS skill heatmaps, and training and certification
recommendations.

Sample skills heatmap

A supplemental data file is provided, which can be filtered by country, team, or other criteria. The file
includes the “raw” data collected from the survey, and individual:
• Scores and heatmaps,
• Course recommendations,
• Certifications (achieved, recommended, and desired), and
• Training requests.

In addition, organizations can choose to have employees presented with a list of recommendations
upon completion of the survey and delivered by email.
