Theory:
Identity Management
Identity Management (ID management) is the organizational process for ensuring individuals have the
appropriate access to technology resources.
This includes the identification, authentication and authorization of a person, or persons, to have
access to applications, systems or networks. This is done by associating user rights and restrictions with
established identities.
Managed identities can also refer to software processes that need access to organizational systems.
Identity management can be considered an essential component for security.
Identity management includes authenticating users and determining whether they're allowed access to
particular systems. ID management works hand-in-hand with identity and access management (IAM)
systems. Identity management is focused on authentication, while access management is aimed at
authorization.
Amazon Web Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Amazon providing on-demand cloud computing platforms
and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis.
AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) provides fine-grained access control across all of AWS.
With IAM, you can specify who can access which services and resources, and under which conditions.
With IAM policies, you manage permissions to your workforce and systems to ensure least-privilege
permissions.
IAM is an AWS service that is offered at no additional charge. To get started using IAM or if you have
already registered with AWS, go to the IAM console.
