What is it
 What is an Imperative Sentence?
The imperative is a type of sentence that gives advice or instructions that express requests or
commands. An imperative sentence typically begins with the base form of a verb, as in Go now!

An imperative sentence ends with a period or with an exclamation point.

 Positive Imperatives

To form a positive imperative, use the base form of the verb.


Example: read, listen, out, cut, sing
a. Cut the rope.
b. Read the book.
c. Listen!
d. Come here.
e. Speak English.

You can also use positive imperatives by using always.


a. Always put on your safety belt.
b. Always bring your coin purse.

 Negative Imperatives

To form a negative imperative, use “Do not + base form of the verb.”
a. Do not come here.
b. Do not drink it.
c. Don’t lean out of the window.
d. Don’t speak Spanish in the English class.
e. Don’t sit here.
