Introduction
NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) is a universal Network Management Sys-
tem providing support for different NE types.
Standard management interfaces provides networking with other
vendors equipments. NMS design is a tree hierarchy for easy NE
management.
NMS is highly customizable with its cross-platform technology.
NMS maps to work with technologies like CORBA.
Platform Support NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) supports all major operating systems
such as Windows and UNIX operating system. It meets multi-pur-
pose user requirements.
For instance, telecom operators and vendors can establish the re-
lation between NE and NMS very easily. The service provider can
handle the Network Management and OSS. Enterprises and In-
dependent Software Vendors (ISV) can launch management solu-
tions.
Features NMS supports different IP devices at backbone, convergence and
access layers. NMS also provides user friendly interfaces and en-
hanced features like network graphs, network-monitoring system
and multiple system management tools.
Functions
NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) unified NMS provides the following func-
tions:
 Performance Management
 Report Management
Performance Management
Performance management provides data reports and their man-
agement. NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) supports the following task
management and data queries:
 Query Realtime Data
 Measurement Task Management
 Query History Index
Report Management
Report Management provides data reports and their management.
These reports can be managed using different files, tasks and tem-
plates. NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) supports the following three re-
port types:
 Report Template Management
 Report Task Management
 Report File Management
Topology Management
Topology management view provides a default logic view and dif-
ferent customizable logical views. Topology management opera-
tions include:
 Creating Topology Views
 Modifying Topology Views
 Deleting Topology Views
 Setting and Grouping Rules
 Refreshing and Synchronizing Topology Data
Topology management interface can manage NE(s) for ADSL,
VDSL, SHDSL, layer-2 protocols, routers, user authentication,
QoS, ACL. It can also manage environment monitoring for power
supply systems, NE attributes, deleting/modifying/moving of
NE(s), displaying topology attributes and statistic information.
Security Management
Security management is divided into the following:
Client Security Management: The client processes the data
for the user login interface and user security management in-
terfaces.
Server Security Management: The server authenticates lo-
gin users and logical operation processing.
Security management authenticates the authorized system users.
It implements user role management, provides security control for
operators to conduct security management, operations and con-
nection between the user and role.
Log Management
Log management provides the following:
 Operation Log
 Security Log
 System Log
Log management provides operations to query, delete and backup
logs in addition to view log information. It also provides log-filter-
ing conditions.
System Management
System management view provides the database and IP device
management.
System management provides the following:
 Application Server Maintenance and Management
 Database Server Maintenance and Management
Users can view, backup and restore database resources. Devices
can be monitored and alarm information can be generated.
Policy Management
Policies specify the operations in the NMS under specific conditions.
Policy management provides the following functions via manage-
ment views:
 Policy Creation
 Policy Deletion
 Policy Modification
 Policy Activation
 Policy Query
Fault Management
Fault management manages and views the faults generated by
various network devices managed by NMS. Fault management
monitors and manages the events and notifications on the net-
work.
Faults management provides the following alarms:
Equipment Alarms: Alarms directly generated by the net-
work equipment.
Background Alarms: Alarm generated by NMS when the pre-
set running parameter thresholds are exceeded. For example,
performance alarm and system management alarm.
Auto Discovery
Configuration
Auto discovery service runs in the background and discovers the
devices running on the IP network. It includes the device that
support:
SNMP Protocol: SNMP protocol can identify the type and each
device attribute. It uses the filter rules to store the alarmed
nodes into the database.
Internet Protocol: Internet protocol includes lower-layer
protocols such as TCP and IP.
The auto discovery configuration view provides friendly man-ma-
chine interfaces enabling the user to configure the auto discovery
parameters.
Features
The NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) unified NMS provide the following
features:
Unified management framework for ZTE data network products
Compliant with the General Bureau of Telecommunication Ad-
ministration function specifications.
TMN series recommendations issued by ITU-T and network
management protocols by RFC are strictly conformed.
System modular structure makes it convenient to add, delete
and modify new equipments and new services.
Simple, stable and robust with user-friendly interfaces.
 Integrated management capability
 Perfect network layer management functions
 Out-of-band and in-band management
Double backup channel for application environment
Seamless integration of local maintenance with multi-level
NMS
 NMS Server
 NMS Client
NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) NMS comprehensive structure is shown
in Figure 1.
Functions NMS server is responsible for data communication with the man-
agement object, database server and the client. It also controls in-
formation processing. NMS components communicate with clients,
services and TCP/IP on the network.
Database Database stores NE data. NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) NMS adopts
MS SQL Server and oracle databases. NMS server needs to access
the database to write/read data into/from the database. The read
and write requests of the client to the database are forwarded and
executed through the NMS server.
Remote Access The client is an NMS remote terminal to the server. The user can lo-
gin remotely to the NMS. User can access the NMS center through
the Internet or the Intranet client to perform authorized NMS op-
erations.
Networking Mode NMS networking mode is shown in Figure 2.

Overview
Command line terminal provides special features and functions
for engineers to configure the system by using commands. Sin-
gle or batch commands are executed for management operations
and managed objects. It is designed for the clients operations
and management. NetNumen N31 (V4.4.0) supports the follow-
ing commands functions:
