Work to be done in the register

Adjective Clause – acts as an adjective in a sentence . ( answers the question which)

(1) I sat on a chair, which was close to my study table.


Main clause – I sat on a chair
Subordinate – which was close to my study table.
(2) The books that I bought were expensive.
Main Clause – The books were expensive
Subordinate Clause- That I bought

Adverb Clause – acts as an adverb in a sentence . ( answers the question when , where,

why, how…….)

(1) Jill was excited when she received the balloon.

Main clause – Jill was excited

Subordinate – when she received the balloon.

(2) Joe will perform where there are many people.


Main Clause – Joe will perform
Subordinate Clause- where there are many people.

Exercise : From the Collins book:( Pick out the clauses as shown in the examples. In
both the exercises kindly only pickout the clauses.)
