1. Operational safety
General information This operating manual is an integral part of the actuators PSL-AMS
and must be kept available to operators at any time.
Issue Issue1

Safety notes
Danger!
... warns of hazards due to electric current within buildings or when
using machines or tools.
Caution!
... warns of dangerous spots. Contains information, instructions and
interdictions to prevent injuries or damage.
Danger!
This symbol warns of hazards posing a risk to health.
Ignoring these instructions can lead to injuries.
Safe operation The actuators must only be operated by trained and authorized
personnel.
Upgrade and Upgrading and operating the actuator with PS accessory parts
accessory parts requires observance of the respective operating manuals.
Note
PS Automation is not liable for damages resulting from arbitrary
changes to the actuators.
Mounting position Any mounting position allowed except “cap pointing down“.

5. Manual operation
Manual operation A hand wheel is provided to operate the actuator in case of power
failure or adjustment work (valve adjustment).

Check whether the coupling
piece (item 13) is drilled as
per the valve stem´s end
(item 9). If necessary, re-ma-

C stem retracting“
Before tightening the nut, both columns must have penetrated com-
pletely into the bore holes at the top of the valve. If necessary, the
spindle-nut position has to be adjusted with the hand wheel.
Non-observance may cause damage to the actuator!
Mains supply Electric supply lines must be dimensioned for the peak current of the
unit and comply with IEC 227 and IEC 245.
When leading the wires through the cable glands on the actuator
side, their minimum bending radius has to be considered.
Wiring diagram Electric connections are provided in a terminal box mounted to the
actuator.

8. Maintenance and repair
Under the conditions of use indicated in the data sheet, the
actuators are free of maintenance. All gears are lubricated for their
service life and do not require to be re-lubricated.
Cleaning Clean the actuators with a dry cloth and do not use a cleaning
agent. The cloth should be soft, don‘t use any coarse or abrasive
materials.
Before contacting one of our agencies or representatives, please check whether you can eliminate the
found malfunction using the table below.
LED doesn‘t give light 1. No supply voltage applied 1. Apply supply voltage
2. The applied voltage doesn‘t match 2. Apply correct supply voltage
with the one indicated on the
actuator tag plate
LED flashes red 1. No set value signal applied 1. Apply set value signal
2. Signal polarity swapped 2. Check signal polarity
3. Insufficient driving power for 3. Check the valve‘s smooth
moving the valve plug (power running by moving it with the
available is too low or the valve is hand wheel, check power
blocked) supply
4. Actuator overheated 4. Allow unit to cool down
Actuator doesn‘t deliver 1. Incorrect setting of valve stroke 1. Adjust valve stroke setting
full valve stroke 2. Mechanical interface problems 2. Check dimensions, if
(valve/actuator) necessary rework or re-order
LED shows green light, Insufficient power supply Use power supply with power
but actuator doesn‘t (especially at 24V), hence not rating corresponding to the
move sufficient voltage when under actuator‘s tag plate
load
If the malfunction cannot be eliminated following the above instructions, please call our service team.

Caution! Dangerous electrical voltage can be present! Avoid personal or
material damages by observing applicable regulations and safety standards!
2. Einbau / Installation

einstellen.
• Check the limit switch settings of the actuator, if necessary adjust.
• Switch the Actuating Direction (pos. 1) to the required position.
• Set the sensitivity of the positioner using potentiometer P1 (usually intermediate value).
• Turn potentiometers P2, P3, P4 to the left limit.
• Connect a measuring instrument for 10 VDC to the terminal X22.
• Set minimum input signal (0/4 mA or 0/2 V) to the positioner.
• Switch on mains supply. The actuator drives to the corresponding end position and stops
due to the position switch.
• Turn the shaft of the feedback potentiometer via the friction coupling to „0“ so that the
measuring instrument displays Uout = 0 V.
• Turn potentiometer P2 (START) clockwise until both operating LED´s are switching off.
________________________________________________________________________________________
PS Automation GmbH BA_PSAP_0510.doc 3
• Set maximum input signal (20 mA or 10 V) to the positioner.
• The actuator drives to the opposite end position and cuts off due to the position switch.
• Turn potentiometer P4 (STROKE) clockwise until the measuring instrument displays
Uout = 10 V.
• Turn potentiometer P3 (RANGE) clockwise until both operating LED´s are switching off.
• Check that the actuator positions correctly by driving through the whole input signal range.
If necessary re-adjust.

• Antrieb in die Endlage des maximalen Rückmeldewerts fahren.
• Potentiometer P5 an linken Anschlag drehen.
• Am Potentiometer P6 anhand des Meßgeräts den Signal-Ausgangsbereich einstellen (16
mA für 4-20 mA Ausgangsignal, 20 mA for 0-20 mA Ausgangssignal)
• Den Antrieb in die entgegengesetzte Endlage fahren.
• Minimales Ausgangssignal (0 mA oder 4 mA) an P5 einstellen.
• Positioner adjustment according to the description above.
• Connect a measuring instrument to terminal block X24.
• Drive the actuator to the end position that should be displayed with maximum output signal.
• Turn potentiometer P5 to the left until limit is reached.
• Adjust current range using potentiometer P6 (16 mA for output range 4-20 mA / 20 mA for
output range 0-20 mA)
• Drive actuator to the opposite end position.
• Adjust minimum output signal (0 or 4 mA) using potentiometer P5.
