However, for coils, since it is generally virtually impractical to inspect the whole length for flaws, and also because there is no chance for flaw removal, minor irregularities such as colour unevenness may be contained. If treatment of such ir~ regularities in coils is required, it may be performed by the method agreed upon be- tween the purchaser and the manufacturer. Further, unless otherwise specified, the requirement for surface flaws applies to the side of the sheet, corrugated sheet or coil of which the durability is guaranteed. Note ® In the case where a single side is guaranteed, normally, for the sheet and the corrugated sheet, the upper side in packaging shalll be the guar~ anteed side, and for the coil, the internal side of coil shall be the guar anteed side. 14 Tests 14.1 Endurance tests for paint coatings Endurance tests for paint coatings shall be as follows. These tests shall be the type tests, which are not to be performed at every delivery, but to be performed only on such occasions as when stable manufacturing conditions have been established, or when a modification has been made in the manufacturing conditions which may affect the du- rability of the product. For corrugated sheets, samples shalll be taken from flat sheets prior to corrugation. 14.1.1 Salt spray test The salt spray test method shall be in accordance with JIS Z 2871, except that the solution with its pH adjusted in accordance with 7.2.1 of JIS Z 2871 shall be used. 14.1.2 Dew-cycle type accelerated weathering test ‘The dew-cycle type accelerated weathering test shall be in accordance with the me- thod specified in 6.2.2.3 of JIS Z 9107. PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 15 G 3322: 2012 14.1.3 Cycle corrosion test The cycle corrosion test shall be in accordance with the method of either clause 8 of JIS H 8502 or Annex 1 of JIS K 5600-7+ This test shall be applied upon agreement between the purchaser and the manufac: turer, and if applied, the type and duration of the test shall be as agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 14.2 Tests for physical properties of paint coating 14.2.1 Sampling method ‘The samples for the bend, pencil hardness, impact and cross-scoring tests shall be taken from every 50 t or fraction of products that are equivalent in the class of sub- strate for prepainting, the coating mass and the dimensions and colour. Sampling from each lot shall be as follows. For corrugated sheets, samples shall be taken from sheets prior to corrugation. 14.2.2 Bend test The bend test shall be as follows. a) One test piece, having a 75 mm to 125 mm width and a length suited for the test, shall be cut out of each sample in parallel to the rolling direction of the substrate for prepainting, unless otherwise specified, b) The test piece shall be bent manually with a vise, as shown in figure 4, with the test side facing outside, through 180° in the longitudinal direction of the test piece until the internal spacing as given in table 17 is obtained. When a hand vise is not available, other suitable means of testing may be adopted. ©) The bend test shall be applied to the products with a coating mass corresponding to symbol AZ150 given in JIS G 3321 or under. However, in the case of the products with a coating mass corresponding to symbols AZ170, AZ185 and AZ200 as given in JIS G 3321, the bend test may be performed by applying the internal spacing as agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Pencil lead to be used shall be of a hardness of one of the symbols given in table 18, selected according to the durability class of the paint coating. The hardness sym bols in table 18 are in accordance with the specification of JIS S 6006. For commer cial and drawing qualities, pencil or lead of other hardness symbols than those given below may be used upon agreement between the purchaser and the manu facturer. Table 18 Hardness symbol of pencil Class of paint coating | Hardness symbol Class 1, Class 4 H Class 2, Class 5 H Class 3, Class 6 F The pencil hardness test shalll be performed by using a pencil or a lead holder. The pencil shall be sharpened appropriately so as to expose about 3 mm point of the lead or fixed to the holder. The lead of the pencil shall then be ground by gently drawing a continuous circle on an abrasive paper of No.P400 or finer as specified in JIS R 6252 laid on a hard and flat surface, with the pencil being held so that the lead is at right angles to the paper, until a flat tip which is sharp around the edge is obtained. The tip of the lead shall be freshly ground flat before each test. Holding the pencil or lead holder prepared by b) at an angle of about 45° to the surface of the sample, straight lines shall be drawn in the direction shown in figure 5 while applying a load of about 10 N. Not less than three lines that are at least 20 mm long shall be drawn. ‘The surface of the sample shall be visually examined for scratches. A weight shall be dropped onto a test face from top of a Du Pont type impact tester as shown in figure 6. ‘The mass of the weight shall be (500 + 1) g, and the radius of the impact point shall be (6.35 + 0,03) mm. The weight shall be dropped from a height of 500 mm above the test piece. The test piece shall be visually examined for peeling of paint coating at the position of impact. Figure 6 Du Pont impact-deformation tester 14.2.5 Cross-scoring test a) »b) o) ‘The cross-scoring test shall be as follows. On the paint coating of the test piece, straight lines forming a grid shall be scored with a knife or the like so as to reach the coated surface. Eleven straight lines at 1 mm intervals, each in longitudinal and transverse direc tions, shalll be scored so that they cross each other at right angles. The test piece shall be visually examined for peeling of paint coating at the scored PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 18 G 3322: 2012 lines of the grid, 14.3 Brightness test and solar reflectance test of products The brightness test and solar reflectance test of sheets, corrugated sheets and coils shall be as follows. However, the wavelength in the range near infrared radiation (780 to 2 500 nm) shall be used, and the solar reflectance shall be obtained from the spectral reflec~ tance in this wavelength range. The value thus obtained shall be rounded to an in- teger according to Rule A of JIS Z 8401. 14.4 Caution on tests The tests require the following cautions. a) Since the durability of coating, physical properties and solar reflectance of the sheets, corrugated sheets and coils are affected by the paint coating flaws (flaws incurred in handling, hair cracks on processed surfaces, etc.), testing shall be con ducted on sheets with normal surfaces. b) The temperature for tests on physical properties shall be the normal temperature (5 °C to 35 °C) specified in JIS Z 8703. 15 Inspection and re-inspection 15.1 Inspection The inspection shall be in accordance with JIS G 0404 and the following. a) The durability of paint coating shall conform to the requirements specified in clause 5. b) The physical properties of paint coating shall conform to the requirements specified in clause 6. ©) The brightness and solar reflectance of products shall conform to the requirement specified in clause 7. d) The dimensions shall conform to the requirements specified in clause 10.
