What I Know

1. Underwater Hockey
2. Synchronized Swimming
3. Aquathlon
4. Spearfishing
5. Underwater Rugby

What’s In

Snorkeling was the subject of the previous module's lesson. It's a fantastic method to
learn about the undersea environment. Snorkeling requires the acquisition of basic skills, as well
as the wearing of appropriate clothing and equipment.

What Is It

1. How can freediving improve the breathing ability of an individual?

Freediving increases the ability of our lungs to hold more air. It has the potential
to expand the lungs and improve their efficiency in digesting the air we breathe. The
larger the lungs' air capacity, the longer a person can hold his breath.

2. Do you agree that staying fit through exercising underwater is more effective than
on dry land? Explain your answer.
Exercising underwater is more effective than exercising in land. When exercising
in water, you are working out against the resistance of the water, which results in a higher
intensity workout and increased muscle strengthening and toning.

What’s More

Identify the health related fitness component evident in each water activities and list down
three stretching exercises that will help develop their skills.

1. Spearfishing – Cardiovascular Fitness

- Turtle walk
- Yoga
- Rib stretch
2. Underwater Hockey – Body Composition
- Lunges
- Arm circles
- Trunk rotations

3. Synchronized Swimming – Flexibility

- Hamstring streamline stretch
- Cat-cow pose
- Straight arm swing

Additional Question:

What health related fitness component/s are evident in underwater rugby? Mention the
particular movement.

Underwater rugby has an associated health fitness component of cardiovascular

endurance and flexibility. Our heart and entire body are put to the test when we move our bodies
underwater, and they must function properly. To ensure that the body receives enough oxygen,
the lungs and heart must collaborate.

What I Have Learned

1. How would you compare recreational to competitive free diving?

It allows freedivers to put their talents to the test and engage while challenging
themselves in competitive freediving. Recreational free diving is simply diving for joy
and relaxation.

2. What should an individual or athlete do to avoid the danger of free diving?

The right breathing techniques should be practiced because they are the most
crucial thing to master.

3. Summarize how freediving started during ancient times.

Freediving was utilized by ancient civilizations to obtain food. They can only rely
on their lung capacity due to a lack of equipment. They realized that some underwater
resources can be exploited in everyday life back then. As a result, they'll go underwater to
find them. Apart from that, they employed freediving to recover valuable items from
shipwrecks and construct underwater defenses during wartime.

4. Should beginner divers take short courses in freediving? Why or why not?
Beginner divers should be encouraged to take short courses in freediving, as it
may help them expand their knowledge in proper breathing, safety, techniques, being
aware of the risks, and diving without the use of equipments.

Assessment

_FALSE__ 1. Free diving was used as competition during ancient times.

__TRUE__ 2. Holding your breath for 30minutes is achievable when trained.

__TRUE__ 3. Competitive free diving can intense and physical for beginning divers.

_FALSE__ 4. Free diving is one of the water activities related to snorkeling that does require an
oxygen tank.

__TRUE__ 5. Water activities such as synchronized swimming can improve breathing ability
through breathing in and out while in water.

__TRUE__ 6. When going deeper in the ocean it is important to wear exposure suit to protect
your body from water elements.

_FALSE__ 7. Anyone can start freediving without short courses.

__TRUE__ 8. Goggles, fins, and bathing cap are all examples of equipment in freediving.

longer in the water.

_FALSE__ 10. Only beginners are at risks of drowning when not fully prepared and conditioned
for diving.

Additional Activity

What is the difference of free diving to scuba diving? Elaborate your answer.

Divers can investigate marine life using both freediving and scuba diving, although there
are some differences. Scuba diving contains an apparatus that allows divers to breathe a little
longer under water, whereas freediving explores the underwater world with minimum
equipment.
