INSPECTION, SERVICE, TEST & RELEASE

SCREW CONVEYOR - AUGER
I. SCOPE
This document provides the guidelines for readying a screw conveyor or auger, received
into an OMSL, service facility, for field application or storage.

The process is comprised of

(1) an initial pre-check inspection conducted upon arrival of the unit to the OMSL facility
(2) a detailed service of the mechanical and electrical components
(3) a series of tests, and
(4) a release inspection and sign-off.

Any given conveyor or auger, returning from the field, can only return to the field when the
four-stage maintenance process discussed henceforth is satisfied.

II. GENERAL
A. All work shall be performed by personnel with previous experience in the operation and
maintenance of screw conveyor or augers.
B. Recording equipment must be calibrated within the previous twelve months or as
specified in the corresponding industry standards.
C. Verification equipment such as vibration pens and temperature guns should have
resolutions of at least 1 mm/s and 1°C, respectively. Thoroughly clean surfaces where
measurements will be taken and ensure the centrifuge is oriented such that these are easily
and safely accessed.
D. Tighten bolts/screws/nuts per the recommended torque values found in the QRG for each
connection.
E. Close visual examination of equipment is permitted only when power is turned off or unit
is properly secured while running.
F. All components must be installed at all times during operation.

III. INCOMING INSPECTION

A. All units received into an OMSL facility shall comply with a RED TAG - GREEN TAG
system. A red tag indicates the unit is out of service, and the green tag indicates that the unit
is ready to be placed in service.

Upon arrival, and before any work is conducted, a red tag must be affixed to the conveyor or
auger. Upon completion of the requirements of this document, the red tag is replaced with a
green tag, signifying that the equipment is ready to go to the customer if needed.

B. The incoming checklist is a visual inspection guideline to assess the overall condition of
the
equipment in the as-received state. Perform the inspection per Table 1 of this document.
IV. SERVICE GUIDE

The service guide for the conveyor is divided in two sections – MECHANICAL SERVICE
and
ELECTRICAL SERVICE. Perform the respective service and record the findings in Table 2
and Table 3 of this document.

V. TEST
A. PRE-TEST VISUAL CHECKS

The purpose of the pre-test visual inspection is to safeguard the integrity of personnel and
equipment prior to start-up for the first time after servicing the unit. Perform the inspection
as indicated in Table 4 of this document.

B. TESTING

All testing is to be conducted in compliance with the local HSE requirements. Under no
circumstances should the conveyor or auger be tested outside of a designated test area
unless approved by the local manager on shift.

Record the test results in Table 5 of this document.

1. Close the isolation switch (main power ON).
2. Start the Screw Conveyor normally.
3. Function-test the Emergency Stop features. Reset and restart Screw Conveyor.
4. Run the Screw Conveyor for 15 minutes and monitor for operational abnormalities.
5. Run the Screw Conveyor up to speed and hold for 4 hours.
6. Measure vibration at locations electrical motor base. Max 10 mm/s RMS (0.56 in/s Peak).
7. Measure the amperage (all 3 phases) of the electric motor at start of test, after 2 hours, and
after 4
hours. The allowable amperage range depends on the size of the motor.
8. Stop the test if the recommended vibration or amperage levels are out of range. Find the
root cause, repair, and re-test.
NOTE: Failure of the Screw Conveyor during testing nullifies the test. The entire test must
be
conducted again once the Screw Conveyor is repaired and cleared for testing.
9. When test is complete, de-energize the Screw Conveyor, disconnect all power sources to
it, and apply a thin coat of manufacturer’s recommended grease to the flame paths of all the
control panels and junction boxes in preparation for shipping or storage.

VI. RELEASE - OUTGOING INSPECTION

Perform the final inspection of the serviced conveyor or auger per the Table 6 of this
document. Full completion of this checklist is required to release the equipment for
shipping, storage, and/or installation.
VII. STORAGE
Storage for extended periods shall follow the guidelines of the corresponding storage
maintenance procedures. Extended storage is designated as a length of time greater than one
week.
