WHAT’S MORE
Activity 1.1 Analysing Contemporary Philippine Arts
1. a) Painting - Through painting, we assist people in spiritual
growth. Moving on to personal use of paintings, a good painting
not only distinguishes oneself from other visual artifacts but
is also more aesthetically appealing and decorative. Different
regions in our country have different kinds of painting art
styles so it is important that we understand each one of them.
b) Literature - Art literature exists solely to generate
beautiful or entertaining works in order to satisfy and
entertain people, including artists, and not to disseminate
societal ideals. We can have a better grasp of culture and a
greater appreciation for it by doing so. We can learn a lot
from how different places document their past.
c) Music & Theater - While it may set a tone or set an
atmosphere, it can also give the listener more particular
information. It also contributes significantly to the promotion
of Filipino culture and heritage from various regions.
2. a) Sculpture - Sculpture is a great pretender; a fabrication
that points to our need for storytelling and artifice. We have
art, therefore we will not perish from the truth. Sculpture
connects people, expresses subjectivities, and builds
communities. The sculpture reflects its environment,
civilization, and epoch.
b) Architecture - A true reflection of the country's
transition from past to present, the architecture of the
Philippines tells the story of its rich history. At its roots,
architecture exists to create the physical environment in which
people live, but architecture is more than just the built
environment, it's also a part of our culture.
c) Dance - Filipino rituals are often shown in dance because
for Filipinos, dance is the highest symbolic form. It
transcends language and is able to convey emotions, collective
memory, and articulate their purpose. Dance, in this case, is
the fundamental expression of their complex message and
intention.
