Performance task: Narrative essay

Media, one of the major sectors of society, can be both an independent body and a participant in the
process of shaping. As the former, media has the watchdog responsibility. For the latter, media serves as
a participant by transmitting relevant information that can move the members of a society into action.

The mass media as an institution has become an essential element in our society, for the mass media
helped shape the culture of Philippine society, especially those concerning the values, traditions, and
norms of the society. Philippine Journalism began in the late 1700’s and slowly fourished throughout it’s
time. During the Federalist and Republican era newspapers were circulated throughout the elite.

Every society evolves. Development goes along with the process of evolution. Once every member of
a given society is deeply moved by the whys, s/he takes action. This action, or any action for that matter,
is part of the hows. His/her action may involve the media. S/he can be informed, educated or influenced
by the media.

You will become more of a public person, and in doing so more shaped by the society around you.
Social media changes at the speed of which the technology that supports social media is developed and
embraced. For new developments in social media to be embraced the new technological developments
must be useful and intuitive.

Throughout the years the use of the media has become such a huge part of life across the world. The
media has taken over and had such a drastic effect on the Philippine culture as a whole. "Pilipinos" today
look to the use of technology to learn information about any and everything. The old way of life is no
more the digital age is rapidly evolving and growing, it is becoming such a huge part of the lives of all
"Pilipinos" and the information and news media plays a huge role in this evolution.

The one-way information flow in traditional media changes into the two-way dialogue, then into
“group discussion”. Virtual communities and social networks take shape. There, communication
participants are no longer persons in conventional sense, but reduce into roles. A single person can have
various roles to present in different spaces created by new media.

Historically the role of media in our society was one of delivering news and information for the sake of
knowledge. According to Vivian, the news media served as the major watch dog in the gathering and
sharing of information across the world. Traditions of a culture, such as China, have long been created
an opportunity for free creative and artistic expression as a means of media exposure in countries where
there is great government regulation.
There is a social responsibility of the news media to deliver correct information to the public. What is
the responsibility of information that may shape the view of a people’s political opinions? Journalism
has changed because of electronic media and their convergence transformed the ways news consumed.

The modern era of news and information media has transformed so many aspect of life. Electronic
media and their convergence has transformed journalism and news consumption in such a drastic way.
Due to the constant evolution of technology electronic media has become the way of doing everything.
This has transformed the way of journalism and news consumption, because over the years consumers
have gradually gravitated towards the internet for their information and New Media (Internet).

In Traditional Media Television and Radio have a great influence on people’s daily lives and routines,
affecting the content and times that audiences watch and listen? Mass media has at least three
important roles to play: to inform, to educate and to influence opinion. These distinctive features of
traditional media have been challenged by new media, which is changing the participation habits of the
audiences.
