ITT403 TEST1

1. Which type network is preferable – the wireless network or the cable network? Give your reasons.

Wired networks are generally much faster than wireless networks. Data speeds have continually
improved with the inception of Gigabit routers and other new technologies. Additionally, wired networks
tend to be void of any dead spots that are occasionally present in a wireless connection.

2. Different antennae, such as yagi, horn, and cellular antennas, etc. have different merits. Research
these technologies in details and pay specific attention to how they are used as well their strengths and
weakness. Provide an opinion regarding which antenna types will become the dominant players in the
future of medium- and long-distance wireless links.

This type of Antenna is mainly used for the television broadcasting. There are many benefits of using
these types of Antenna. The size as well as the weight of the Yagi Antenna is very compact. Also the
installation of the Yagi Antenna is very easy, convenient and cheap. Strength of Yagi Antenna, The size as
well as the weight of the Yagi Antenna is very compact. The cost of the Yagi Antenna is very pocket
friendly. The best part of the Yagi Antenna is the uni-directional process pattern. Weakness of Yagi
Antenna The main weakness if Yagi Antenna is the reduction in the Bandwidth. Yagi Antenna is very
sensitive for the frequency.

3. Discuss any Four (4) RF propagation behaviours.

Free space propagation: Here the radio waves travel in free space, or away from other objects which
influence the way in which they travel. It is only the distance from the source which affects the way in
which the signal strength reduces.

Ground wave propagation: When signals travel via the ground wave they are modified by the ground or
terrain over which they travel. They also tend to follow the Earth's curvature.

Ionospheric propagation: Here the radio signals are modified and influenced by a region high in the
earth's atmosphere known as the ionosphere. This form of radio propagation is used by radio
communications systems that transmit on the HF or short wave bands.

Meteor scatter communications: As the name indicates, this form of radio propagation uses the ionised
trails left by meteors as they enter the earth’s atmosphere. When data is not required instantly, it is an
ideal form of communications for distances around 1500km or so for commercial applications.
