A Description of an Event

Yesterday, our class had to give a 3 minutes speech on any topic we’d have choose. In order to make the lesson and the
atmosphere more interesting and memorable, everyone had their speeches ready and the class was arranged in a great
way.

It started with a speech by our teacher, which explained how learning systematically can help us to understand the
future lessons easier. As she was the one to break the ice and give us more courage to present our thoughts on a certain
topic, each person started to go in the front of everyone and said their discourse. Moreover, the lesson was going pretty
well without any unwanted surprises.

After few presentations my time had come as well. I had few emotions but I tried to get rid of them and just to keep the
useful ones, so I started my speech. It was a talk about the pollution of the air, as that was only thing I could come up
with at that moment. Despite being longer than 3 minutes, no one had a problem with it as they had seem quite
enjoying listening to me.

The best thing about this whole experience was the fact that I could understand other people`s point of view on any kind
of topics. Furthermore, I was able to train my public speaking skills and it also enhanced my confidence and it had
increased my self-esteem.

To sum up, that event was quite memorable and I advise everybody to take part in such activities, as it can increase your
English level and knowledge in different topics. Moreover, whenever its your turn to speak try to keep an eye contact
with the audience and to speak with them as some friends, you shouldn’t be afraid of them.

Should smoking be banned?

Over 14% of the population from our entire planet are active smokers. Due to the bad effects caused by the smoking
banning it has become a subject of a public debate. Should smoking be banned or will we let it to carry on destroying our
health?

I’d like to start with the “for arguments”, the reasons why smoking should be banned. Despite the fact that the
treatment of the diseases caused by smoking is quite expensive, by banning it, the governments would save some
money on medical treatment, as the smokers won’t end up broke from buying too many packs of cigarettes, as they’d be
able to afford their treatment and the therapy by themselves. Moreover, another pro argument would be the fact that
the risk of unwanted fires, caused by the thrown cigarettes would be gone, although, such situations are quite unlikely
to happen. In addition, more and more people will become healthier, as they’d be able to breathe a cleaner air, which
isn’t polluted by the thousands of the toxic chemicals which the smoke of the cigarette is composed of.

On the other hand, once smoking isn’t allowed anymore, the governments would lose a considerably amount of capital,
which they’d have earned from taxing each pack of cigarettes. In spite of the grown of healthier people, the usage of
drugs and more lethal substances might increase as well, leading to a lose-lose situation for the population and for the
authorities. And the last but not least, some of the smokers` bodies wouldn’t be able to adapt to a new lifestyle, leading
to mental illnesses or even death.

To wrap things up, I am for banning smoking, as I can’t stand its disgusting smell. Moreover, I advise everyone to stay
away from this vice and to try to maintain a healthy life.
