LESSON 4: Health – Intentional Injuries

Intentional Injuries
Are those resulting from purposeful acts directed to others or self.

TYPES of INTENTIONAL INJURIES


1. Bullying is an undesired aggressiveness behavior involving a real or perceived superiority
to others.
CATEGORIES OF BULLYING
a) Verbal Bullying – saying or writing mean things such as
teasing, name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments,
taunting, and threatening.

b) Social
Bullying – also called relational
bullying, involves hurting someone’s
reputation or relationships. It includes
excluding someone from a group on
purpose, influencing others not to be
friends with someone, spreading rumors about someone, and public
embarrassment.
c) Physical Bullying – hurting a person’s body or
possession. This includes hitting, kicking, pinching,
spitting, tripping, shoving, taking or breaking other’s
possessions, and making mean or rude hand gestures.

d) Cyber Bullying –
bullying through
electronic technology like cellular phones, computers
and communication tools like social media, text messages,
chat, websites, and online forums.
2. Stalking is an obsessive pattern of behavior
going after someone. It makes someone feel afraid, terrorized,

intimidated, and nervous. The stalker constantly contacts, follows, send things, and talks to
someone even when they do not want to.

3. Extortion is an act of getting money, property, or favors


from other people. This can be happened inside and outside of
schools wherein victim students give their money for the
assurance that they will not be physically hurt.

4.Gang and Youth


Violence – A gang is a
group of people, mostly adolescents, who bond together.
They do illegal activities together and fight against other
gangs.

5. Illegal Fraternity-related Violence – A


fraternity is a group of people with common purpose
or interest. Fraternities are mostly based in colleges
and universities. Most youth join fraternities for the
sense of belongingness. But some fraternities
implement initiation rites which includes hazing, an
act considered illegal in our country which cause
injuries that may lead to death.
