The following are social issues that have made an impact on this entire world.

causes of this social issue. On one hand, it is the lack of education facilities especially in the rural belt which
has led to the people being illiterate. On the other hand, it is reluctance of people to send their children to

school that has also resulted in a high illiteracy rate in the country. Due to illiteracy and ignorance, the people
are not able to avail the facilities provided by the government.

own name.

poverty level is higher in the rural areas as compared to urban areas. Poverty leads to many other social

regarding biology, psychology, or cultural norms.
Example: Exclusion from school due to pregnancy or early marriage
7. Homelessness
Defined as living in housing that is below the minimum standard or lacks secure tenure. People who are
homeless are most often unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure and adequate housing due to
income that is inconsistent or lacking altogether.
Example: A beggar staying under a bridge for quite some time
8. Overpopulation
This refers to a population which exceeds its sustainable size within a particular environment or habitat.
Overpopulation results from an increased birth rate, decreased death rate, the immigration to a new ecological
niche with fewer predators, or the sudden decline in available resources.

of the latest data of United Nation.
9. Violence
An act of physical force that causes or is intended to cause harm. The damage inflicted by violence may be
physical, psychosocial, or both. Regardless of its cause, violence has a negative impact on those who
experience or witness it. Violence can cause physical injury as well as psychological harm.

Victims of domestic violence:

Attacked by husbands, trapped by society

Published July 11, 2008 7:59pm By CLAIRE DELFIN, Philippine Human Rights Reporting Project

MANILA, Philippines - It was the middle of the night when Rowena (not her real name) woke to the sounds
of her husband in his drunken stupor returning home and struggling with the door. Her heart was pounding
for she knew all too well from a long and painful experience what would happen next. And so it did: Before
she had a chance to jump off the bed to defend herself, he was already punching her full in the face. By the
time he was finished assaulting her, Rowena’s face and body was a mass of cuts and bruises which took more
than a week to heal. Physically if not emotionally recovered, Rowena finally decided that enough was
enough.
“Ayoko na. Pagod na ako.” (I couldn’t bear it any longer. I was tired)," she said. Then aged 22, a college
dropout and jobless, Rowena packed her things up, got together her three children and left. “It was the best
decision I’ve ever made," she said looking back.
