WHAT IS CORROSION RESISTANCE ?
Corrosion resistance is defined as the ability of a material (metallic or non-
metallic) to withstand corrosion damage caused by oxidation or other chemical
reactions.
CORROSION RESISTANCE MATERIALS
• Corrosion resistance materials : there are several materials used to
prevent corrosion and they each have there own properties ( stainless
steel , aluminum , copper, brass ….. Etc )
1. STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless steels are carbon steels, typically a low carbon steel, that have
higher amounts of chromium. The addition of chromium is part of the
reason for their corrosion resistance.

2. ALUMINUM
Aluminum is frequently used in the aerospace industry for airplane body
components. The ability of aluminum to resist corrosion makes it attractive to
the aerospace industry because it reduces the amount of overhaul that must be
performed due to corrosion
ALUMINUM AGAINST AIR AND MOISTURE :
when aluminum is exposed to air and moisture, the outer layer forms a
stubborn film of aluminum oxide (protective oxide surface ) on the
exposed surface. This layer won’t allow any corrosion to the inner metal.
3. COPPER / BRASS / BRONZE
Copper, brass and bronze are also corrosion-resistant metals. Brass is a copper
alloy containing a large amount of zinc. Bronze is a copper alloy that includes a
large amount of tin and smaller amounts of other alloying elements.
4. POLYPROPYLENE “STEEL OF THE PLASTIC
INDUSTRY”
one of the most popular plastics in the manufacturing industry and is an
especially common plastic for producing car parts.
It’s also one of the most corrosion-resistant plastics.

5. TITANIUM
Titanium is an extremely useful corrosion-resistant material.
Aerospace is perhaps the most abundant user of titanium, with common
instances of titanium use including structural components and engine parts.
WHY TITANIUM IS CORROSION RESISTANCE ?
The passive titanium oxide layer that forms on its exterior makes it
advantageous for use in corrosive environments.
its strength-to-density ratio, which is one of the highest of any metal.
having only about 60% the density of steel.
6. NICKEL AND NICKEL BASED ALLOYS
Nickel and nickel-base alloys are vitally important to modern industry because of
their ability to withstand a wide variety of severe operating conditions involving
corrosive environments, high temperatures, high stresses, and combinations of
these factors.
COPPER-NICKEL ALLOY

Copper nickel alloys offers excellent corrosion resistance, especially in

marine salt water environments , Cu-Ni alloys chosen for sea water service
