Ans.: Human beings are using more and more fertile land for commercial and other than
agriculture related activities. The production of rice, wheat etc. is less now a days. With the
use of pesticides and chemical mixed products the soil also not getting nutreints as
required. At one side chemical spoil the fertility of land. So the production of food is
affected.

[8] How water is one of the main problems of sustainable development?


Ans.: We need clean and fresh water from rivers and ponds and other sources for drinking
and cleaning as well as other purposes. But at the same time poeple dump garbage into
them. Therefore the water becomes polluted. Hence, we have to consume the polluted
water. After certan years we have onlu polluted water and it affects our future generation
with shortage of clean drinking water. So it is one of the main problems of sustainable
development.
[9] Alok is preparing for a competitive exam. He read something about fuel as one of
the main problems of sustainable development. But he forgot right now. Suggest a
few points to recall the concept.
Ans.: We are getting fuel from the earth. Day by day people are using vehicles for their
routine life. So fuel demand is also increased. At the same time we are using trees as fuel. So
we are cutting trees for the same purpose and building furniture and other materials. This
will increase natural problems and affecting the environment. It leads to climate change,
extreme weather conditions like floods, extreme cold or heat that affect many people’s lives.

[10] Param is searching for an environment-friendly way of producing power? Name


the initiative of the government to use the way to produce power.
Ans.: An environment friendly way of of producing power is using solar energy. The nergy
we got from sun is unlimited. The initiative taken by government for large scale of power
production is Solar power plant in Charanka – Gujarat Solar Park.

[11] Write a short note on Charanka – Gujarat Solar Power Plant.


Ans.: The Charanka – Gujarat Solar Power Plant is situated in Patan district in Gujarat. It is
spread over an 2000 hectare, with the capacity of 600 MW power generation as 2008. This
reduced the dependence on non-renewable fossil fuel in Gujarat. The peopel of Charanka
also benefited from this and they got good source of income and it will help their future
generations as well

what are its targeets?
Ans.: The Sustainable Development Goals were launched at the United Nations Sustainable
Development Summit in New York in September 2015. It was formed for the 2030 Agenda
for Sustainable Development and sets the targets that the countries have to work together
and achieve them by 2030.

Ans.: There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Few of them are:

Ans.: A person can contribute to environment and tod SDGs by awareness and wilingness to
learn about Sustainable Development. If someone wants to do for it then he/she should
start with his/her home, in school or workplace to help people and envinment.

Ans.: Mr. Avasth Hedge found an eco-friendly alternative. He made 100 per cent bio-
degradable bag which can dissolve in hot water and decompose in natural environment.

Ans.: Mr. Narayana Peesapaty made an edible cutlery made out of grain. These spoons can
be eaten and even if hey are not eaten they will easily decompose in the soil enriching it.

[1] How cities and villages are dependent on each other?


Ans.: Those who are living in cities get their daily needs from the villages. These needs are
food, vegetables, milk and so on. Villages get their market demand from cities. Economy
grows from city market. They can sale their items in the cities and get their needs. Therefore
both are dependent on each other.
[2] What is the importance of sustainable development?
Ans.: As a part of economical development we are cutting more and more trees which
causes huge damage to our environment. The human population is also increasing rapidly
day by day. As population increases their need of natural resources increases. We need
food, water, fuel etc. Their main source is natural resources. Very shortly our future
generation will face shortage of these natural resources. There fore saving our environment
and natural resources for future generation is needed from now.

[3] Explain sustainable development according to WCED with example.


Ans. According to WCED (Wrold Commission of Environment and Development) –
‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs’ is known as sustainable development.

For example, sustainable agriculture consists of environment friendly methods of famring


that allow the production of agricultural crops or livestock without damage to human or
natural system. It also protects soil from adverse effect of chemicals.

[4] What is the aim of sustainable development goals?


Ans.: The 17 SDGs have been made with the aim to take care of important issues facing
businesses, governments and society. Some of these issues are poverty, gender equality,
water use, energy, climate change and biodiversity. Countries are now making policies and
regulations that will promote sustainable systems needed in all economic sectors to provide
a secure, affordable and sustainable economy.

[5] Explain the importance of education towards sustainable development.


Ans.: Education is one of the important factors for sustainable development. Children who
have gone to school will be able to do jobs or business differently. Therefore they can take
care of their own and their families. Education helps people to become resoponsible citizen.
As a person grows he thinks about his community and then nation and contribute for
community’s well being.
