Abstract

1. Spreading public awareness under rural outreach programmes

Although rapid economic growth in India has led to steady progress in reducing poverty, it is still
much higher in rural areas given the low growth potential in rural and agricultural sectors.
Governments expend a large portion of amount on welfare schemes because there is a high
number of people in poverty. Thus, social safety nets have to be created to protect the
vulnerable weaker sections. However, the situation is not favourable among the poorest people
in India, particularly the people from scheduled and backward categories. This paper explores
the reaching out of the welfare schemes in a BUGATHAHALLI village of KARNATAKA State (India).
A participatory method has been employed in this study to identify the impacts of welfare and
development schemes through focal group discussions (FGDs) and the household survey. Our
study findings show that the above poverty group (APG) and below poverty group (BPG)
households have been contrasted according to social benefits received from the government.
Further, the results shows that the welfare and development schemes are actually benefitting
largely by APG household’s than BPG households, due to because of limited voice in
participating in the decision-making process on what work is to be undertaken. Also, these
obtained results show the poverty reduction in India.

2. Helping local school to achieve good results and enhance their enrolment in
higher or technical education

Developing strong attitudes towards learning can help students overcome some of
challenges faced during exam preparation, so this can help them to achieve good results in
academics. Also, to make them understand the importance of technical education for their
development and job career. Modern business relies heavily on computerized technology to
efficiently complete vast amounts of tasks. Having decent computer skills means that you can
perform the tasks competing candidates may not be able to.

3. To skill rural population

India being an agriculture-based country with around 70 percentage of the population live
in rural areas, some parts of the rural population have lack of knowledge regarding the
technologies, facilities that are provided by the government, and young people with a lot of skills
have not been able to achieve what they need is because of lack of knowledge of the
opportunity. If a proper guidance is needed to them, it makes their life easier and better and for
the farmers it helps them to solve a lot of problems. We first interacted with them about their
problems and other things they are facing in their neighbourhood. After this we identified some
of the problem their also, we then planned and stated by creating a group and teaching them
about the technologies and young people about skill building and communication and for small
business about how to improve this business and more. And mainly for the farmers complete
guidance about improving their farm and yield.

1. Introduction to Activity 1
SPREADING PUBLIC AWARNESS UNDER RURAL OUTREACH PROGRAM

1.1 Objective
The main aim is to create awareness about facility provided by government to poor
households and government welfare schemes listed below

1) Gas subsidy - To provide 12 subsidised LPG cylinders per year to households.

2) Public Distribution System (PDS)- To supply rice to the BPL families with income under 1.5
lakh.

3) Old-age pensions -To provide monthly pension ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500 to the
old, infirm, people with HIV-AIDS, widows, incapacitated weavers and toddy tappers.

4) Kalyana Lakshmi -To provide financial assistance of Rs. 75,000 to SCs and STs girls at the
time of marriage

5) Water harvest structures -To conduct awareness programmes in colonies for technical
guidance to construct rainwater harvesting structures

6) Awareness about, and response to, local mental health and wellbeing challenges.

7)Small farmers Scheme - Assistance to small farmers

1.2 Description

1) Gas Subsidy is a campaign that was launched in March 2015 by the Indian
government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is aimed at
motivating LPG users who are able to afford to pay the market price for LPG to
voluntarily surrender their LPG subsidy. As of 23 April 2016, 10 million people had
voluntarily given up the subsidy. The surrendered subsidy is being redistributed by
the government in order to provide cooking gas connections to poor families in rural
households free of cost.

So, people of the Bugathahalli village were not aware these facilities, we
explained them about scheme like Pradhan Manthri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) which
provide LPG connections to women of BPL households and gave information about
document which need to be submitted in order to avail the benefit of PMUY.

2) Public Distribution System (PDS) has evolved as a system of management of scarcity

through distribution of food grains at affordable prices. Over the years, PDS has
become an important part of Government’s Policy for management of food economy
in the country with cost-effective, fast and targeted delivery of food grains

It is additional in nature and is not intended to make available the entire

requirement of any of the commodities distributed under it to a household or a

<ACTIVITY REPORT>

section of the society. PDS is operated under the joint responsibility of the Central
and the State Governments. The Central Government, through Food Corporation of
India (FCI), has assumed the responsibility for procurement, storage, transportation
and bulk allocation of food grains to the State Governments. The operational
responsibility including allocation within State, identification of eligible families,
issue of Ration Cards and supervision of the functioning of Fair Price Shops (FPSs)
etc., rest with the State Governments. Under the PDS, presently the commodities
like wheat, rice, sugar and kerosene are being allocated to the States /UTs for
distribution. Some States/ UTs also distribute additional items of mass consumption
through the PDS outlets such as pulses, edible oils, iodized salt, spices, etc.

3) Old Age Pension Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the elderly. The state
Government of Karnataka has launched Sandhya Surksha scheme to provide financial
assistance for senior citizen of the state. The Sandhya Surksha Pension Scheme
provides eligible senior citizens with monthly pensions.

For the people of Bugathahalli we told the benefits of this scheme and Features
Eligible beneficiaries will receive a monthly pension of Rs.400 from the State
government. Persons who use KSRTC for travelling can also get concessional bus
transportation. Finally, Day care centre’s are also available for the senior citizen to
support them under the scheme.

4) Many Farmers scheme is provided by Government of India for encouraging and

provided best facilities by introducing Best Government Scheme and Programmes in
Agriculture. In Bugathahalli we visited Farmer’s home and gave brief explanation about
various scheme listed below:

 PM-Kisan Scheme Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is an

initiative of the Government wherein 120 million small and marginal farmers
of India with less than two hectares of landholding will get up to Rs. 6,000
per year as minimum income support. PM-Kisan scheme has become
operational since 1st December 2018. Under this scheme, cultivators will get
Rs. 6000 in three installments.

 Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan yojana Prime Minister Narendra Modi

launched a pension scheme for the small & marginal farmers of India last
September. Under PM Kisan Maandhan scheme about 5 crore marginalised
farmers will get a minimum pension of Rs 3000 / month on attaining the age
of 60. Those who fall in the age group of 18 - 40 years will be eligible to
apply for the scheme. Under this scheme, the farmers will be required to
make a monthly contribution of Rs 55 to 200, depending on their age of
entry, in the Pension Fund till they reach the retirement date, 60 years. The
Government will make an equal contribution of the same amount in the
pension fund for the cultivators.

2.2 Description
Education is a medium for transmitting social norms and values to learners through the
formal education system. As there is a large competency for achieve good results in
academics for students to get them admitted in their dream colleges and courses a proper
guidance is essential. This can be achieved by sharing our academic experiences, learning
strategies.

Most of the students drop their education after they complete certain level of education due
to various reasons. This can be prevented by encouraging the students about importance of
higher education, making them aware of alternative courses to join, enrolment in certain
courses with higher job opportunities, these types of choices can help students to enrol in
higher education.

Technical education plays a vital role all over the world in addressing youth unemployment,
poverty and skill development. Technical education is also important for development of a
nation. Its aim is to promote the production of skilled technical and professional man power
to rejuvenate and sustain the economy and reduce unemployment. It involves the

2.3 Outcome

Makes Them Future Ready

One of the advantages of using and learning computer in education is that it makes students
future-ready. Whatever the students want to do in the future- business or job, computers
are essential at every place and learning computers at a very early age gives them the
confidence to be ready to take up any challenging role that life might show them. In short, it
makes them job ready and students that learn computers now in school will be adept at
using this in their workplace. Do remember that the importance of computers goes beyond
education.it also promotes and trains them to think critically, research independently, and
be proficient across technology.

Student Engagement
Computers keep students focused and engaged for a longer time than traditional
textbook/notebook method. It also makes them excited to learn more— especially STEM
subjects. This is so because computers at school make it easy to deliver STEM education as
all subjects look good on computers.

Influences Career Decisions

Introducing students to computers early on will inspire them to choose careers in the
technology and engineering disciplines. Computers at school also enhance their knowledge
of how computer in education have impacted people’s everyday lives. The knowledge that
students acquire during their schooling years will increase their interest in technology-
related disciplines when they prepare for college.

3. Introduction to Activity 3
TO SKILL RURAL POPULATION

3.1 Objective
India being the second most populated country in the world with a 1.35 billion
population. Rural population accounts to 68.35% of total India total population which is
more than 80 crore people. India also being a country with major source of income to be
agriculture which comes from rural population. For a developing country like India covering
68.35% of the rural population means leads to a sudden and a greater development in the
economy of the country. So, skilling the rural population with the latest technologies,
alternative methods and ways for their traditional method of framing which sometimes is
slow and least effective and also helping them to solve their small problems that they are
facing in the villages, Neighbourhood or in their farm which may take a while for the
government or any agencies to solve, and also letting them know about the latest rules and
regulations of the government.

3.2 Description
1. Digital banking methods: We gathered a group of people in a neighbourhood to a
single place. Before starting with the online payment methods, we enquired them
about their bank accounts status and encouraged the people who didn’t have a bank
account to first open an account in their nearest bank and also informed them about
the necessary documents that are required to be carried to the bank for account
opening. We informed them about the online payment methods and applications
that are available in the play store/app store. We also informed them about the
option from the RBI to transfer the money from one bank to another using the basic
phones also. We showed them on how to register there and accounts in the
platforms like Phone-Pay. After registration we showed them on how to transfer the
money from one account to another by transferring from our accounts. Also, we
thought about paying their electrical bills, water bills and phone recharge by their
smart phones.

2. Business development: We visited local business in the villages. First to being with
we enquired and checked their products and discussed with them about the
problems they are facing in their small business. After the discussion we started
informing them about with the scheme of the Indian government that help them in
their initial stages to grow and improve. We them started with the options of
branding their business by registering with the government for some business who
haven't done that. We then started by sharing the small reference videos that were
available in the YouTube on improving their specific business. We provided them with
the resources about quality and testing that is the most important thing in the
product-based business. We visited some of the local Chips, Condiment’s sellers in
the village.

<Dept of ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS > Page 8

<ACTIVITY REPORT>

3. Automation of work: We first survived the places in the village like farms, and public
places and figured out some of the activities in the villages can be automated like the
frequently used option. In the farms of the village, we found many activities that can
be automated and we informed the farmers about the process on how to automate
this task so that it will save them a lot of time. The activity we found were time to
time cattle feeding, fertilizing the plants and seeding in the beginning of the crop, this
process can be easily automated using the machineries. In some places we found
many of the water borewells which were supposed to be used manually every time
to water the plants, we suggested the automated way of a small controller which lets
water on a timely basis and more. And for the business we suggested them about the
automated mini small scale production techniques that would save them a lot of time
and help them to improve their production.
