We started our internship a week earlier than the scheduled opening of classes. We
started our internship with a counseling orientation from our supervisor. Each day, we our
tasked to interview a client and write a psychological notes and mental status examination. So,
for the whole week, we only contacted and interviewed clients and we wrote psychological
notes for each client. For the week of August 23-27, we just had a meeting with our supervisor
and just polished our psychological notes since a lot of our classmate are not yet done with
their task since it was really hard contacting the clients due to their training and we couldn’t
proceed with the next activity unless everyone is done. Hopefully by next week, we could move
on to our next task. That’s all for this week.
JOURNAL (AUGUST 23-27)

As we embark ourselves in our last school year in college, another phase will start and
we will gain more experience. So, our internship for this term will be in a clinical setting. To be
prepared for this, we struggled a lot to learn theories, concepts, diagnostic criteria, assessment,
approaches and management all throughout our college years. However, a pandemic happened
and we were forced to take our psychotherapy and clinical subjects online which is really
important for this internship since we will handle clients who have mental issues. Due to this,
we felt like we were not ready to counsel clients as we were not trained enough in terms of
facing and talking to real clients.

We started a week early for our internship and I was really nervous especially when our
supervisor already gave us a list of clients. They are PNP officers who are currently undergoing
training in Davao. I checked their mental health issues in the form and prepared for a lot of
possible questions that I would ask them. I was really nervous when I was about to call them.
But during the interview, my nervousness faded as I was really immersed with the stories of my
clients. Also, as I interview each client a day, I realized that I don’t get nervous as much as I did
when I called my first client. It felt like I got used to it and just trusted myself and the
knowledge and skills I gained for the last three years of studying psychology. Another struggle
that we encountered was the difficulty to contact our clients. Since our clients were busy with
their training during the day, the only time we could call them was during the night. Some were
accommodating and some were unresponsive. I also experienced one client who hung up on
me as I introduced myself during the phone call. I got confused for a while then I realized,
maybe she’s not willing to be consulted or she’s just tired.

This week was really exhausting since we are adjusting to our new set of works. We also
need to write a psychological report for every client. But, it may be draining on our part, but
talking to clients was really interesting for me since I got to know their different stories and as
well as knowing the part that I could lessen the sadness or burden that they feel as I listened to
them. It was rewarding whenever they thank me for calling them because they have at least got
to vent out the stress and worries they were experiencing. This week’s activity was really
inspiring and motivational for me.
