Bangalore India's Hi-tech City

Bangalore the capital city of Karnataka state was the most important city in India
for high Technology industry.

Bangalore’s pleasant climate, moderated by its location on the Deccan Plateau

over 900 m above sea level, is a significant attraction to foreign and domestic
companies known as the ‘Garden City’. Bangalore claims to have the highest
quality of life in the country, because of its dust free environment large public-
sector undertakings such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Indian Space
Research Organisation, established in Bangalore by Indian government. There are
many colleges of Higher Education in this sector and there has been large -scale
investment in science and technology parks. The city prides itself on a ‘culture of
learning’ which gives innovative leadership within India.

In 1980, Bangalore became the location for the first large-scale for investment in
HI-TECHNOLOGY in India when Texas Instruments selected the city above a
number of the other possibilities.

Important backward and forward linkages was steadily established over time.

This was a classic example of the process of cumulative causation. Apart from
ICT Industries Bangalore is also India's most important Centre for Aerospace and
Biotechnology.

Many European and North American companies that previously outsource that ICT
requirements to local companies are now using Indian companies Outsourcing to
India cause because

Labour costs are considerably lower.

A number of developed countries are significant ICT skills shortages

India has a large number of English- speaking workforce.

Bangalore’s estimated population is 12 million. It is the fastest growing Indian

urban area after New Delhi.

Bangalore is known as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’, because of its ICT

companies.
Bangalore has steadily built up a large pool of highly skilled labour and that can
undertake a wide range of complex tasks in Hi-Technology Industries. There have
been very high investment in the city’s infrastructure to accommodate such a high
rate of expansion.

The city’s landscape has changed with many new glass and steel skyscrapers and
numerous cyber cafes.

To conclude:

Bangalore is the fourth largest Technology class 10 the world of the Silicon Valley
after Boston and London.

It is a radical evolution indeed, and the process of change-over has been facilitated
by the far sighted policy initiative taken and the enabling market conditions created
in every stage of evolution whether it is creating the right kind of infrastructure and
clusters; whether it is setting up the right of schools, general colleges,
technical/engineering institutions, ITIs, management schools, R&D research
institutions; whether it is focussing the right kind of cultural environment and life
style; whether it is evolving a right kind of integrated innovative systems
management and enlightened entrepreneurship to encourage creativity, research
and development, business and revenue growth generation and at the same,
expansion of technology, knowledge and requisite skill spectrum to be at par with
the ups and downs of the global economy, the industry, trade, academica and both
the Central and State Govts. have worked in tandem. This has made Bangalore not
only a dynamic city region per se but a world wide recognised brand name.
